How do you transition your #skincareroutine for the colder weather? I get a lot of questions from people that experience seasonal skin conditions that want to know more about how they can better adapt their routine for the changing weather. I’ve noticed that most of the articles that talk about how to transition your routine for the seasons are marketing oriented and focused on selling you products rather than giving meaningful information about what you should look for/seek to change in your routine. Even fewer offer an explanation of what causes these seasonal changes, instead they sell you a whole new routine. What if I told you that adjusting your routine to compensate for changes in the weather didn’t have to be that hard and that there are a few relatively simple steps you can take. As a matter of fact before you even go to the store to buy something new go through the products that you already have and see what you can repurpose. There are 2 main steps that you should focus on in the winter: replenish and protect. Replenish hydration using hydrating products such as serums and toners, you can even use your summer gel moisturizer as a hydrating serum underneath a heavier one. Protect your skin using heavier moisturizers and occlusives. Protection must be paired with hydration, dimply putting oil on your skin will not do anything for dehydrated skin. #skincaretips #skincare #cosmeticchemistry #cosmeticscience #skincareblogger #skincareaddict #autumnskincare

Happy Friday! 🥳 What do y’all have planned for the weekend? I’m bringing you another 2 finger #sunscreen test ✌🏾. This is the @missha.official Aqua Sun Gel SPF 50 that I got from @masksheets_com . Have any of y’all tried it? It is a #kbeauty sunscreen that retails for $16 but I was able to get it on sale for $12! 🛍🤑 Even before the discount it is pretty affordable especially compared to some other chemical sunscreens on the market. In the US, sunscreen is regulated as an OTC drug and has to obtain premarket approval so there are only a few filters that can be used. I’ve mentioned this before, but the US is actually over a decade behind in terms of sunscreen technology due to regulations that make it difficult to get new filters approved. This particular sunscreen uses two filters that are widely used in other countries but haven’t been approved in the US yet: Tinosorb S (Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine) and Amiloxate (Isoamyl p-methoxycinnamate). As I expected, this is a black girl friendly sunscreen, there are very few chemical sunscreens that leave a cast. It has a nice floral fragrance without the traditional sunscreen smell, dries down matte and has a velvety texture. I’ll be back with a final review soon to talk more about ingredients, how it appears underneath makeup, and how it feels after reapplication. #spf #sunscreentest #sunscreenreview #skincare #skincareaddict #chemicalsunscreen #uvfilter #skincareblogger #cosmeticchemist #missha

Are there any #skincare misconceptions or behaviors that you’ve had to overcome? Answer below in the comments. #skintalks There are so many prevalent misconceptions when it comes to skincare. On one hand, common behaviors such as improper cleansing and not using #sunscreen can affect your skin’s health on a daily basis. On the other hand, some companies fear monger and try to capitalize off of peoples lack of knowledge about their skin in order to push products that are not formulated well. This can make it very hard to discern whats good versus what isn’t. It always surprises people that many #naturalproducts that claim to not contain “chemicals” (especially ones that have a lot of raw and essential oils) aren’t the best for their skin and can be extremely harmful when formulated improperly. In actuality, everything is a chemical and those botanical extracts, raw, and essential oils found in “natural products” are also complex mixtures of chemicals. Today Im back again with 5 more tips to help you get your #skincareroutine together. Happy Friday y’all! 🥳 Have a great weekend. 💕 #skin #skincaretips #cosmeticchemistry #skincareroutine #cosmeticchemist #healthyskin #infographic #skincarescience #skincarejunkie

There are a lot of common misconceptions about proper #skincare and maintenance. Most of learning how to better manage your skin conditions starts with unlearning common behaviors that are detrimental to your skin’s health. 🧖🏾‍♀️ I have personally fallen victim to many of these #myths and had to unlearn a lot of damaging skincare habits, but my skin has thanked me ever since. 🙌🏾 These are 5 common misconceptions that may be hindering your progress. ⚠️ #cosmeticchemistry #skincareroutine #skinscience #skincaretips #cosmeticscience #healthyskin

Happy Labor Day! I’m back y’all 💁🏾‍♀️ and I’m excited to be starting the second and final year of my Masters degree! 🥳🎉 It’s crazy because I never thought I’d enjoy school so much but it seems like the more I learn, the less I feel like I know and the more I to want to keep researching/learning new things. 🙇🏾‍♀️ Up until now I’ve been using this page primarily as way to document my makeup journey. While I still love a good beat every now and then, lately I havent had the time, energy, nor inspiration to constantly turn out looks 😪. Lately, for one of the first times in my life I’ve been loving how my natural skin looks. 🥰 If you know me you know I’ve struggled with managing my skin for a long time. From acne and hyperpigmentation to over exfoliation it has definitely been a journey but learning more about skin biology and cosmetic chemistry has definitely changed my life. 🙌🏾 There are a lot of misconceptions and misinformation surrounding skincare that makes it hard for people to accurately manage their skin concerns. I’ve really wanted to create a space to talk about all things beauty and the science behind it and talk about what Ive learned and researched. I cant wait to share with y’all! 🤗
