Happy Mother’s Day to the moms who stood on the sidelines of our crazy dreams and supported us anyway.
Looking back at this old karting photo (yes, that’s a period correct “Rothmans Porsche” hat I’m wearing), I’m pretty sure my mom would’ve preferred a hobby a little safer than motorsports. But somehow, she still gave me the freedom to explore it, learn from it, and chase it wholeheartedly.
A lot of the people, places, and opportunities that came into my life through cars and racing started with support like this at home first.
So today, thank you Mom…and thank you to all the moms out there who gave us the confidence and wings to become who we were meant to be.

This did.
John Singer posted that first image this morning…and just like that, I’m back at Moroso, 2019.
Standing there with Todd Holbert (Al’s son) and Derek Bell.
And then this memory hits me.
Swipe.
Watkins Glen, 1986.

That’s Al Holbert leaning over the car…
Derek Bell settling into the 962.
That weekend, they finished second to BMW, still enough for Al to secure his fifth IMSA title.
I was just a kid, taking it all in from the outside.
Now I’m standing there, 33 years later…talking about it with them.
Think about that for a second.
The cars get you there.
The people stay with you.
Still feels like a “pinch me” moment.

I’ve been fortunate to spend a career around Brumos stories. This one hits a little differently.
For those who know him, this will make perfect sense.
Racer. Filmmaker. Creative force behind Luftgekühlt and Air | Water.
And long before any of that, he was on a path to become a veterinarian.
That part never left him.
This one-off Brumos: An American Racing Icon – Collector’s Edition (No. 003/359) is wrapped in something far more personal.
Jeff Zwart storyboards everything. Every film. Every sequence. Frame by frame, second by second. It’s how he sees before he ever picks up a camera.
Over the decades, he’s drawn more of these than anyone could count.

It’s a piece of his process, made tangible, and unrepeatable.
And in a way that feels entirely consistent with who he is, he’s chosen to let this piece carry something beyond itself:
The Consignor will donate all its proceeds to The Friends of Aspen Animal Shelter.

Almost everything at a Porsche auction carries a Porsche crest.
This one comes closer than you’d expect.
This one almost got me.
Back in my Brumos days, when I learned Porsche Engineering had a hand in developing the V-Rod’s Revolution engine, I came close to buying one myself.
That’s what makes this bike interesting.
Dual overhead cams. Liquid cooling. Built to handle sustained load in a way most Harleys never were. This isn’t traditional Harley thinking—it’s Weissach thinking, applied differently.
And it shows.
This 2016 V-Rod Night Rod Special is the final, most resolved version of that idea. Low, long, unapologetic…with just 2,275 miles and a single Southern California owner.
Even carries a subtle nod back to Stuttgart with a ghosted Baden-Württemberg crest on the tank.
No Porsche crest.
But its engineering roots run straight through Weissach.

Weekends are usually for racing.
This one never did.
One of just 16 factory-built Type 933s created for SCCA D-Production, engineered at Weissach and delivered to U.S. dealer teams to campaign.
Most were used exactly as intended.
This one wasn’t.
Instead, it stayed essentially “new in the box” before being completed years later by Freisinger Motorsport, right down to its original specification and livery from the December 1979 Christophorus cover.
That’s what makes it interesting to me.
Not just what it is, but what it hasn’t done yet.
A purpose-built Porsche race car, still waiting for its first real chapter.

After the last car, this one just feels quieter.
That’s what I like about it.
A simple Carrera 2. Rear-wheel drive, manual, black on black. Nothing trying too hard.
Cars like this used to be a lot easier to find. Not anymore.
Most 964s have been taken apart, redone, or turned into something else. So when one shows up that’s been left alone, you notice it.
This one’s been properly cared for, including a recent engine-out service, but it still feels like itself.
That’s really the appeal here.

One of the things I’ve always enjoyed about the Porsche Air | Water Auction isn’t just the cars.
It’s everything around them.
The objects. The details. The pieces that were there at the same time, even if they’re not what people came to see.
This year’s auction has a strong mix of that. Some of it purely functional. Race seats, harnesses. Other pieces that just capture the feel of the era and how these cars were thought about.

The 964 has always struck me as one of the best starting points if you’re going to do something to a 911.
Modern enough to use. Classic enough to feel right.
This Carrera 4 started as a Guards Red, non-sunroof coupe and was later sent to AP Car Design in Germany for a comprehensive refresh.
What I like here is the restraint.
Nothing feels overdone. Just a series of thoughtful upgrades that build on what the car already is. KW suspension, subtle power increase, Speedline-style wheels that sit exactly how they should.
It still reads like a 964. Just a sharper one.

At one point in the early 2000s, Porsche was offering a mountain bike that cost more than most used cars.
That alone tells you how seriously they took it.
The FS Evolution built on the same lightweight carbon formula, with continuous updates to components and performance along the way. It was even marketed alongside cars like the 996 GT2, which gives you a pretty clear sense of the company it was keeping.
This example remains largely original, with a few thoughtful upgrades, and presents exactly as you’d hope one of these would today.
You don’t come across them often. And when you do, they tend to stay tucked away.
