Didnāt think this day would come. Iāve long kicked myself in the ass for not running a marathon in my 20s when I didnāt have injuries and was constantly fit. At 44 years old, dealing with 12 years of achilles issues, 2 failed marathon training attempts and now a dad of 2 young boys, I thought my chance to do a marathon was gone.
9.5 weeks ago I was informed I had any entry into the London Marathon through our @flotrack broadcast partnership. I called @coachponsonby_trp and asked him if it was even a possibility given the injuries and lack of training (Iād been averaging only 7 miles/week for the previous 1.5 yrs). He put together a plan and we decided to give it a go! Through the process my āgoodā achilles became the bad achilles and a plan that had me running 4 days/week quickly went down to 3 and then to only 2 days/week prior to race week. Over the 10 weeks leading into the race I averaged 27 miles/week of running (and one 25 mile bike ride per week). I hit one 20 mile long run 3 weeks prior to race day.
The week of London I set a goal of sub-3:15, not knowing what my body would feel like given I had only 3 training runs that averaged that pace, none of which exceeded 10 miles.
On race day I went through the half at about 3:09 pace and started experiencing leg cramps at mile 18. I slowed to a pace that would allow me to run without the legs seizing up and finished in 3:13:05.
While I hit my goal, the time didnāt matter. It had been so long since I put a challenging marker on the calendar⦠I am most proud of starting the process, working through adversity and seeing it through to the literal finish line! I was proud that I tested my body in a way that I had never before and fought through adversity on race day to get to the finish line! And it was amazing to have @livelikearedhead at the finish line cheering me on and supporting me along the way (this is the video she got at the finish)
In the end, I got to be a part of the largest and fastest marathon in the world. @londonmarathon you were amazing, and thanks to you, now I can say Iām a #marathoner

A day in the life of RAW co-founder @patrickhitchins . He was leaving @capitalfactory to go on a run and ended up chatting with @kloefflerga , current head of the US Small Business Administration (SBA). Hitchins owns a small business in human performance software.
Come along for my last double digit run before the London Marathon! Iāve been managing two bum achilles through this process and today marked near completion of the training build to get to London. Iāll only have 1-2 easy runs prior to Sundayās race so Iām taking it as a win to have made it this far on such a light buildup. The job isnāt done yet⦠@londonmarathon , see you on the starting line on April 26, 2026! And watch it live on @flotrack if youāre here in the US!
If youāre interested, hereās my weekly mileage leading to London (+ longest run each week):
Week 1: 14.5 miles (5.5mi)
Week 2: 24 miles (8.25mi)
Week 3: 27 miles (10.7mi)
Week 4: 31 miles (10.7mi)
Week 5: 29 miles (14mi)
Week 6: 30.5 miles (18mi)
Week 7: 36.5 miles (20mi)
Week 8: 26.8 miles (15mi)

Thanks to @therunplan for helping navigate a plan on low volume training! And thanks to @carterlinden for helping me get this body to the starting line!

Huge personal milestone! Hit the first 20 mile run of my life
Iāve been running since 5th grade, Iāve run 90 mile weeks on multiple occasions in my 20s, and Iāve been working in the running industry for almost 2 decades. But two things Iāve never done that most people donāt believe when I tell are: Iāve never run a marathon and Iāve never run more than 19 miles at once.
One of those two things is now checked off ā
In preparation to check a marathon finish off the list, Iām running only 3 days a week right now. Itās what my body can handle to manage my achilles pain (I ran 36 miles this week off 3 runs and thatās the highest mileage Iāll hit heading into @londonmarathon ). Thanks to @coachponsonby_trp and @therunplan , we have a plan in place to get my body ready for these big efforts with limited mileage volume. I have no idea what Iāll be able to run in London, but Iām confident that Iāll be ready to finish the distance
Letās than 3 weeks to go, London we coming!!

Big milestone on Sunday in this 9 week buildup to my first marathon. 18 miles in the books. In the 3 days leading into the run I couldnāt do anything because my hip flared up out of no where. I tried to rest and remain patient because I knew I was taking care of my body. I woke up Sunday with minimal pain and was able to get through the run unscathed, with the help of good friend @pacephoto / @johnnypace1 !
Thanks to @coachponsonby_trp and @therunplan for guiding the way so far! And to @carterlinden for helping keep this body in one piece. Less than 4 weeks to go, and we are still coming @londonmarathon !
