WHY DANSE? WHY NOW?
I came up in an era where I could play the biggest house records alongside the biggest hip hop and R&B records, plus everything in between.
The dance floor was never empty, and people vibed to it all.
No genres. No divisions. Just energy, movement and feeling.
Somewhere along my musical journey, sounds and people got divided. But at the end of the day, good music is good music. And if you’re a true music lover like me, you just can’t listen to, or only play one style forever.
That’s like eating the same meals every single day, eventually, you crave something different.
You see, I was raised on Soca & Reggae. It’s in my blood, and my love for all things Caribbean runs deep. BUT at the age of 13, I fell in love with house music straight out of Chicago, thanks to my cousins Michael Marshall from Toronto and Raymond Williams from Queens New York, both DJs who heavily influenced my sound.
The first real club I ever went to was the legendary Twilight Zone in Toronto.
One of those nights that changed everything. IYKYK. (I was only 16… thanks for sneaking me in, Mike.)
I learned how to mix with house music, followed by my other true love: Hip Hop, which my Dad already had me bouncing to “Rapper’s Delight” by The Sugarhill Gang years earlier.
My house crates run deep, and my hip hop crates run even deeper.
My first two house records were “Jack Your Body” by Steve “Silk” Hurley and Move Your Body “The House Music Anthem” by Marshall Jefferson, and my first two hip hop albums were Radio by LL Cool J and Paid in Full by Eric B. & Rakim.
And yes… I still have all of my vinyl.
I created DANSE for people like you and me, those who want more than one sound at an event. It’s for the true DJs, the dancers, and the music lovers.
Global Sounds, the way it used to be.
Expect Soulful House to R&B… UKG to Amapiano… Hip Hop to Baile Funk…
B-More to Future Soul… Dancehall to Soca… and everything in between.
