on my sides I have my @gawharet_el_fan_ RIQ & DAF, this particular Daf is a rarer piece & usually reserved for Zaffet / Sharqi music (Arabic) also known as MAKTOUM. @mickymusicman refers to this as the MAGIC MAKTOUM,

This track is from his album S3NS, which is an incredible fusion of Latin-Cuban rhythms and Arabic melodies. 🎺🇨🇺The energy on this album is unmatched. It’s a Cuban/Salsa track in 7/8 time, which is super unusual compared to the standard 4/4! Trying to lock in that Rumba 3:2 Clave over a 7-count was a mission -but so much fun to play.

Rhythmic flexibility of this piece really strikes me! ! - El Guije by Alfredo Rodriguez is a masterclass in modern jazz composition.
Loving the way Esperanza Spalding anchors the track, Doubling as both the virtuoso bass player & lead vocalist! Her ability to lock in with polyrhythmic piano lines while maintaining fluid wordless vocal texture is beautiful!
For the cover I wanted to mirror that sharp & warm percussion energy by Pedrito Martinez, integrating Darbuka bringing that staccato pop. Works with the dense harmony of the piano & bass interaction. This track originally appeared on album The Invasion Parade. And it’s one of many great examples of contemporary Afro Cuban jazz
I had a lot of fun creating this drum cover 😊 clave ostinato with the hi hat really brought out certain ideas too. I just love how Alfredos compositions bring out some groovy syncopation & odd time signatures
