3 weeks ago my Dr. told me I have a bakers cyst in my knee and a slight tear in my meniscus. Before that I had other injuries and hadn’t been able to REALLY dance like I’ve wanted. He also told me to keep moving (with limitations) as much as I can through this process. So here I am trying to keep up in @austnedwards dope class. Huge thank you to SFX and everyone in class for the support. Reminder: Don’t take healthy bodies for granted!

I choreographed this piece in 2017 & entitled it #WEMATTER. I had the dancers wear black hoodies, and tape over their mouths until it was their time to NOT BE SILENT ANYMORE.
The dancers expressed possibly not being able to breathe during the routine due to the tape. . . I then shared stories of all of the injustices going on in the world and how “I CANT BREATHE” is so much more than a dancer complaint.
I told them that I don’t want “competition glitz/glam, perfect arms and facials. I wanted REAL EMOTIONS and for them to express their anger and how this makes them feel.
Competing this routine in the dance circuits we were doing was VERY RISKY and not “dance competition material” but we chose to dance for those who can’t and make a statement. This routine did just that and it’s sad how relevant it is today.
