Dear Rasa Caffe Community and Friends,
Thank you immensely for your generous financial support. Your contributions of $18,610 toward our $50,000 goal, are beyond appreciated.
It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that Rasa Caffe will be closing its doors on March 30. Despite my best efforts, the challenges to my health and my inability to reach the fundraising goal make it impossible to continue operations.
I am deeply grateful for the kindness and love you have shown Rasa Caffe over the past eleven years. We began as a small cafe in South Berkeley where we quickly became a destination in the neighborhood. The café was bustling each day and many of our regular customers became dear friends. We weathered the COVID years together, and managed to create something beautiful with our loyal loving community.
In the spring of 2023, due to circumstances outside our control, we were no longer able to remain in the space we called home for nearly 10 years. I thought that this would be the end of Rasa Caffe. However, I was incredibly grateful to be given a second chance when we relocated to downtown Oakland. Unfortunately now, with my current health concerns, the reality of operating in this new location, coupled with the current economic climate, keeping the cafe open is no longer sustainable.
I hope we can make the most of our remaining time together. Keeping busy will help the three incredible Rasa Caffe employees transition as smoothly as possible. Our two wonderful baristas and hard working, efficient manager will be looking for new opportunities. If you know of available positions, we would greatly appreciate your help in connecting them to their next opportunity.
If you have remaining balances on your gift cards, now is a great time to use them.
While this may be the end of this chapter of Rasa Caffe, you never know what life has in store. Thank you for being a part of this beautiful chapter. Again, I am deeply grateful.

Rasa Caffe has been a beloved part of the East Bay for over a decade, and after a challenging move to Downtown Oakland, we’re facing an unexpected setback. In the spring of 2024, I was hospitalized due to an undiagnosed heart condition, which has taken a toll on my health and ability to manage the cafe.
Now, as I focus on recovery, we need your help to keep Rasa Caffe running. We’re raising $50,000 to:

To our team—Raven, your creativity and energy have been a true gift. Working with you has been a joy, and we can’t wait to see what’s next in your journey as a bad ass tattooer. Heather, your years of dedication have been invaluable, and your presence has been such an incredible reminder of the enduring importance of friendship nurtured over time. You are both irreplaceable parts of what made Rasa Caffe so special to me.
I would be remiss to not mention the incredible roles both Adan and Jelal played in my time at the cafe. I feel bettered both personally and professionally just by knowing you.
To our community—you have made this space what it is. In a time when it’s so easy to feel isolated, places like Rasa Caffe are vital in bringing people together, sparking conversations, and fostering connection. The abundance of love for Rasa Caffe could not have been more clear over the last few months. This space is truly something built by the community and for the community. Your contributions cannot be overstated and your support has made this more than just a cafe. It’s a home.
And to Rasa—there are few people as hardworking, passionate, and deeply creative as you. Everyone who walks through these doors feels the spark of your vision, your humor, and your kindness. Managing this cafe has been such a meaningful experience, and I am beyond grateful for the trust you placed in me. This space has been one of growth and learning for all of us, and I know your next chapter will be just as inspiring as everything you have built here.
Thank you all for being part of this journey. Though the cafe may be closing, the community and the memories we’ve created together will live on.
