Wow, It’s really my birthday. What a blessing it is to be alive in this seemingly collapsing world. I’ve been through so many mazes and phases trying to find my way, break out of negative patterns and create a way to live in this world with some sense of peace. Struggling to feel worthy and capable of creating a life I truly enjoyed, this year I finally felt like I’ve come into my own. Instead of competing, comparing and complaining I’ve been collaborating and practicing immense gratitude and holding my community close. Cheers to another year. Can’t wait to see what all God has in store. 🥂
The Blues was born in the Mississippi Delta region at the turn of the twentieth century. Delta Blues evolved from Negro spirituals and work chants on southern plantations that infused polyrhythms of West African folk music and instruments such as the banjo. Juke joints helped the spread of the Blues fast across Mississippi and the south with the popularization of the finger picked acoustic playing style and the slide guitar. Two of the most notable delta Blues artist were Robert Johnson who allegedly sold his soul to the devil for guitar playing abilities in the early 1930’s and Charlie Patton who toured with Son House from 1897 to 1934. Delta Blues evolved into Chicago Blues as Black Mississippians such as Muddy Waters moved north to Chicago, adding electric guitars, drums and horns to assemble a full band instead of solo artists with guitars. Muddy Waters single “Rollin Stone” sold over 80,000 copies and was the inspiration for the name of the band The Rolling Stones and even Rolling Stone magazine. #12barblues
Growing up I used to be upset and ashamed of different struggles I went through. I used to ask why me and wish I was someone else. But over this past year, I’ve come into a great level of self acceptance, love and gratitude for my story. I realize that everything I’ve ever been through was all for my good. It was all teaching me to trust God and to be the fighter I always knew I was. I’m grateful to my family, my friends, past and present. Everyone has played a part in teaching me a lesson I needed to know and you’ve made an impact on me. Here’s to more growth, healing and a MASSIVE future. 🥂 #29
