We are in a battle against the new Confederacy for multiracial democracy and the South is the frontline!
Today the movement returned to Montgomery, Alabama, to defiantly declare: WE WILL NOT GO BACK.
We came together in Southern Solidarity because it’s going to take a united front of united states to take on this new Confederacy. Their Jim Crow racially gerrymandered maps are a desperate attempt to turn back the clock of history and dismantle Black political power in the South. But we defeated them once before, and we will do it again.
The mass gathering today showed that the people are ready to fight back, and that they will not let the new George Wallaces, of Governors Bill Lee, Kay Ivey, Ron DeSantis and Greg Abbot drag us backwards. They are standing in the doorway of democracy, but they will not turn us around.
Our ancestors have carried us too far, our martyrs sacrificed too much, our movement grown too large to stop now. We stand in a legacy of liberation, a legacy of good trouble, a legacy of elders who trained us for this moment.
No Jim Crow. No New Confederacy. No Going Back. They haven’t seen the light, so this season they will feel the fire of our movement in the South and the pressure of people power. The march is not over. We are fired up and ready to go! ✊🏾🔥
Standing on the Edmund Pettus Bridge, you don’t have to know the history to feel it.
But when you do, every step means something different.
Thousands of people. Generations of fighters. One weekend. The same fight.
Tuesday we vote. And then we keep showing up. Because the South is everywhere. And we ready. ✊🏽

Today I stood in Montgomery alongside people fighting to protect the right that generations marched, bled, and sacrificed for — the right to vote. These protests are about more than politics; they’re about ensuring every community in Alabama has an equal voice and fair representation. Recent changes to voting maps have sparked concerns that Black voting power could be weakened across the state, which is why so many people showed up today. Being there in a city with so much Civil Rights history made the moment feel even more powerful. A lot of people think their vote doesn’t matter, but history has shown that silence benefits the people already in power. Whether you agree politically or not, staying informed and participating is how real change happens. Don’t sit out when your voice can help shape the future.
