“The impressive A minor Sonata by Henriëtte Bosmans opened the second half in turbulent, heroic mode. Wallfisch used non-vibrato most effectively in the Adagio and there were piano fireworks from Callaghan in the Allegro con fuoco…” @the_strad_

Rupert Marshall-Luck, Raphael Wallfisch, and Hiroaki Takenouchi will bring their collective brilliance to playing chamber pieces imbued with the rural spirit of the British landscape.
The opening work, John Ireland's 'Phantasy Trio', was written for the William Walter Cobbett competitions that aimed to revive the old 16th-century Elizabethan "Fancy" tradition. Music flows as one continuous, evolving story in this single-movement structure in order to construct a more atmospheric musical experience. Works that follow include passionate Cello Sonatas and Armstrong Gibbs' works, such as The Yorkshire Dales, which carry the rhapsodic flow of this tradition.
The sweeping masterpiece of Moeran’s ‘Piano Trio’ will close this fabulous concert, bringing the audience into the wild energy and magical embrace of the English moors: a perfect final instrumental work before a spectacular finale concert-play…
