It’s wonderful to see Chaz Leary on the front cover of living blues magazine. Those of us who lived in Boulder and enjoyed the entertainment Sr. throughout the 70s were very familiar with Chaz. He found his home and well deserved accolades in New Orleans for the last 20 years.
Life is still not “normal” at our home in Nashville. Still no power. Homes within a mile or two of us have been restored. Temperature supposed to drop to near zero tonight. We can get out in our car but have opted to try and stay and manage the house hoping that NES would show up on our street and figure out why we were at the back end of this. Lots of my Musician friends, posting their gig pictures. Can’t wait to rejoin life as we know it.
It’s been a great week for Andy Peake. (I’m a poet. I know it.) Started off with two days of recording at Muscle Shoals Sound. Crazy drummers’ coffee. A wonderful night at 3rd & Lindsley with the Herculeons and a surprise visit from my beautiful daughter, Maggie Peake, aka Emlyn.
It’s easy to get worn out by entertainers promoting their events. I’ll take the risk for this one. For pure art in music, you won’t hear much better than this. John and Andrea are two of the best voices you will EVER hear individually and magic together. Add the incredible singing and playing of Jody Nardone and you will be blown away. Three chances to see and hear us in the upcoming weeks. Add renaissance man, Bill Lloyd to show #1, Steve’s daughter, Lily Winwood to show #2 and the Refugees, featuring Wendy Waldman and her co-conspirators to show #3 and you have a winning residency. Come see John and Andrea before they return to their “day jobs” with the real Doobie Bros and the real James Taylor. Go now to hear the HercuLeons new album release on all major streaming and download platforms. Then come see us at one (or more) of the dates listed below. It’s finally happening!!!! John Edward Cowan, Andrea Zonn, Jody Nardone, Paul Kramer, Andy Peake Sounds, Abe Parker Music, Will McFarlane, Lilly Winwood, Wendy Waldman, Karen Leipziger.
For all your drum geeks… Back around 1994 I got on the Zildjian “A Custom” bandwagon. They were innovative at the time and certainly found a voice in the Zildjian cymbal line. While I was on tour as a member of Jimmy Buffett‘s opening act, Jimmy’s Drummer, Roger Guth, turned me onto what was then the new “K Custom Dark” line of cymbals and I went all in. Last week I played a gig with all backline provided. The ride cymbal was a 20 inch “A Custom” ride and I fell in love all over again. Just got this in the mail last night and opened it up. I was about to start taking it through its paces and I noticed it has an almost tiger like image in the finish, most likely from the buffing process. Any speculation from you drummers as to how it got there?
Hey rockers. How cool is this? Karen & I watched Living Colour perform on Jimmy Kimmel tonight and Karen said she wanted to show me something. She brought this out. It’s a hand written demo that was given to her by Vernon Reid in 1987 (before they were signed.) Karen helped book a venue in Cambridge, MA and LC was one of the bands they booked there. Karen Leipziger, Ted Drozdowski (and Laurie Hoffma?) and about a dozen people were in the audience.
Tuesday’s clinic/ podcast with @daveelitch was a great example of the badass community that drummers have. So much thanks to everyone at @forksdrumcloset , @rapeake , @emge_images and all who showed up! Let’s do it again!
