Often there is some apprehension when it comes to meeting your heroes. You never know if they are going to be friendly or not nice. So, when I entered the Bruce museum yesterday for the Leonardo Drew artist talk, I was surprised to look up and see Leonardo descending slowly down the stairs like a Greek god walking out of heavens. (I learned later that we both had the same knee surgery and I also take the stars one step at a time). Within a few steps our eyes locked and I am happy to see you here brother transmitted to each other. We met at the bottom of the staircase and shook hands with big ear to ear smiles. Later while waiting for the art talk, Leonardo’s brother Anthony came to surprise his brother and sat with me and my friend Murphy. So, we had the opportunity to converse with him.
I am fortunate to meet an art hero who is as warm and friendly as he is talented.
I was told by my gallery @carriehaddadgallery that Suleika Jaouad and her husband Jon Batiste welcomed one of my paintings “Yellow” into their home. Seeing it in their home in @gardenandgun magazine is extremely special.
