Introducing our recently completed ‘Seven Canyons’ new build in Sedona, Arizona. The clients were travelling the world full time for years without a home base before discovering the unbelievable beauty of Sedona, and decided to set their roots down there. They asked us for a home that could be a sanctuary in nature that energizes, promotes creativity, and revitalizes them. They wanted a space to fully be themselves and live in the environmental ambiance. In this first completed photo you can see the core idea of the home. The 52 foot wide pocketing glass doors reflect the reverse sunset on the famous red rocks, as does the infinity edge pool. This seemingly simple composition is never the same in Sedona’s dynamic landscape, a moment to moment reminder of our constantly changing world. More to come in the upcoming weeks on this project! After 22 million page views we are thrilled to announce we won the HGTV “Designer of the Year” contest for our ‘Island Retreat’ project in the Waterside Retreats category! Thank you so much to all of you who voted for us! This one is especially meaningful. ‘Island Retreat’ was our first completed project outside the United States, and with this win, we’ve now won the national competition three times! It’s an honor to represent Arizona as the only architecture firm here to have ever won the competition. In January 2023, we began organizing our work around four distinct landscapes: Desert, Mountain, Water, and Woods. Since then, we’ve been honored with HGTV awards in three of those categories to date —Red Rocks in 2019 (Desert), Noir Peaks in 2023 (Mountain), and now Island Retreat in 2025 (Water). We’re committed to designing architecture that responds to place, connecting our clients to nature and each other, and this recognition affirms the path we’re on. Thank you all! One of the best things about designing homes in the desert is the reliability of the sun. We like to think the sun rays are actively "playing" the architecture, like one would an instrument. Our design work involves "tuning" the house, like our 'Hive' new build seen here, to change its appearance throughout the day and seasons so that you are constantly aware of and connected to your surroundings. To "tune" the architecture and landscape, we geo-locate the house to its exact spot on earth in our 3d digital models during the design process to play with how light and shadow will affect the design over time.  Architect - @ranchmine Photographer - @roehnerryan Builder - @amkozbuilders

Another venue and resort project we have been working on is @theranchsaltriver , a masterplanned ranch destination set within the Superstition Mountains and the Tonto National Forest coming in winter 2027. We are reimagining an existing historic ranch as a place to stay and gather, with the lodge and venue designed to anchor the experience and support Western living with elevated modern comforts.  You’ll wake up to desert sunrises, spend your days riding trails on horseback, unwind on Apache lake, find balance with wellness experiences, and gather around a fire for a ranch-to-table feast before adjourning to your private safari like tent under starlit skies.

Modern edge meets timeless warmth. Meet Kitchen Design Contest Southwest Top 11 Entrant @britanysimon of Britany Simon Design House, with Co Entrant Cavin Costello of the @ranchmine , and this beautifully designed kitchen. Created as a “reset point” for long time travelers, this home balances calm, neutral interiors with dramatic desert views—offering a place to slow down, reconnect, and recharge. Twin islands and a mix of steel, stone, and warm wood details create a dynamic symmetry that blends modern industrial edge with an inviting, approachable feel. Every detail was carefully considered to support stillness, connection, and everyday ritual.

We designed the great room at our ‘Winnow’ new build with a vaulted ceiling along a central axis, anchored by the kitchen on one side and fireplace on the other. This allowed for an airy feeling with natural light on both sides of the space, flooding the room along with the opportunity to catch a cross breeze. A small bar on the side features a window that frames a peek a boo view of Camelback Mountain. Architecture – @ranchmine Photography – @danryan.studio Build – @vista.general
