This week on ‘Shelf help’ we dive straight into the world of tokidoki, a globally recognized lifestyle and art brand founded in 2005, known for its vibrant, “kawaii”-inspired characters and collectible designer toys. Created by Simone Legno along with business partners Ivan Arnold and Pooneh Mohajer, the brand blends Japanese pop culture aesthetics with Western street art, creating a unique visual language that feels both cute and edgy.
Legno, an Italian artist born in Rome, developed tokidoki from a personal website showcasing his illustrations. Deeply influenced by Japanese culture, anime, and graffiti, his work combines innocence with subversion—bright, playful characters layered with darker undertones. The name “tokidoki,” meaning “sometimes” in Japanese, reflects his philosophy of chance, optimism, and the idea that small moments can change everything.
