Two dinners, seventy years apart - one story of community. Shining from Ram Quarter's Heritage Centre, and visible from the square below, is a lightbox artwork by Neville Gabie - showing Greenland's recreation of a 1948 Young’s Brewery Christmas Dinner - held in the same Wandsworth Town Hall room where the original dinner was held and photograph was taken. This week, Futurecity is exploring the impact of this luminous piece of public art. Every seat at The Dinner mirrored its 1948 counterpart. Art that connects Ram Quarter's past to its present and future. Redeveloping a site as culturally and historically rich as Ram Quarter gave Greenland the opportunity to dig deeply into the heritage of the site.  Working with @futurecity_culture and @eprarchitects , Greenland invited artist Neville Gabie to explore the old Ram Brewery archive. He uncovered stories, images and artifacts that inspired Dinner - his lightbox artwork for the site’s Heritage Centre: “I was astounded by the sheer amount of material that was in there and how interesting it was. It’s competition time! 📸 Open House London 2025 @opencity_uk revealed its programme preview today, recognising gems of the capital's architectural landscape, including Ram Quarter!  To mark the festival, Greenland is launching a photography competition with the winner being offered £50 of food and drink in the @sambrooksbrew taproom. The prize will go to the photograph of Ram Quarter that our judge finds most striking, whether it’s the design, the architecture or the blend of old and new.  To hear more about the story behind the redevelopment, you can book a guided tour which will be led by EPR Architects. Booking for the festival will be available on Open House's website from 20 August, and the tours at Ram Quarter will take place on 16 September. London’s Open House festival is back, and Ram Quarter has once again been selected to join the celebration! Open House London will take place this year between 13-21 September.  It shows the best of the city’s architecture and neighbourhoods - and the people who make them.  Greenland’s award-winning redevelopment of the former Ram Brewery, designed by EPR Architects, will offer guided tours explaining the preservation of the site’s unique history, and an overview of planning and design considerations. The tours will delve into the story behind the buzzing community that Ram Quarter has become today. There will also be tours of Ram Quarter's Heritage Centre run by Sambrook’s, London’s oldest independent brewery.  The Heritage Centre tours will be available to the first fifteen people who book and attend each Open House tour.
