Rampfest Indoor Skate Park

And so it begins….

We’ve had a lot of questions lately, so here’s where things are at. Our current venue will be closing on April 19. We’re still open to the public until then with session running a usual. Plus: Scooter Jam — Saturday April 11 Skate Jam — Wednesday April 15 BMX Jam — Saturday April 18 After that, there’ll be a short break while we make the move. We are working on what’s next. New space, new setup, but it’s not locked in just yet, and we’ll share more as things are confirmed. What matters most to us is doing this next step properly and creating something that supports the community long-term, not just rushing into something temporary. For now, it’s about making the most of what we’ve got. If you’ve been meaning to come down… this is your window. Ride the park, book a session, get involved before we close the doors on this chapter. We’ll keep you in the loop as things progress.

Sunday night marked the end of an epic era; the last ever session at @rampfest in Braybrook in Melbourne’s west, before it turned off the lights one last time as an operational privately run park after 18 years in the building. Its very long lease has come to an end and, with the current real estate market, the new asking price on rent far exceeding what a skatepark can afford. While the search for a suitable location to move to continues, the future is currently unwritten. On a Wednesday night in 2008 at Riverslide skatepark a BMX rider told me of a new skatepark being built and I contacted the owner, Brett, via email. He invited myself and a carload of us bladers to check out the space and discuss the possibilities it could hold for the community and we turned up to see construction underway on the first skatepark of its kind in the country to have a floating floor. Thursday evenings became inline night for a long time and we ended up holding the national titles there the following year with the first Australian Rolling Open, a comp that was listed as a top tier event in the World Rolling Series, attracting a fairytale like squadron of America’s finest - a caliber of talent never before seen on our shores. Its current owner, Chris, has carried the torch valiantly for the last 12 years, overseeing epic transformations of the space and hosting the most significant of contests for BMX and scootering, as well as the legendary Rampapalooza quad skating events. The business faced huge challenges, the most significant being the lockdowns during the pandemic, but survived it all and the dream lives on and continued work with the action sports scenes will ensure it remains a part of the story of Australia’s passion for riding ramps. People travelled from interstate to be a part of the final weekend and Sunday was an evening of hi-jinx, nostalgia and sentimentality that I was stoked to share with friends old and new. Cheers to all that made the space what it was and here’s to the next chapter, wherever and whenever that setting may be. Rampfest 💔 hard to put into words what this place ment to us over the past year or so, so many sessions so many good times… but more than anything it was the people that made it what it was. From the staff, to the coaches to all the riders, kids teens and adults, everyone just got around each other. The boys were always welcomed in like a family and that’s something you don’t find everywhere.👌 massive shoutout to @minis_bmxacademy and @chrisbierton for the last 18 months it has been unreal. Genuinely going to miss this place, but if this was V1 can’t wait to see everyone again for V2.🙌🔥
