TOMORROW on REEL TALK: Director Rame Ibrahim (@ramibrahim99 )
I’m sitting down with Palestinian-Canadian filmmaker Rame Ibrahim, whose work moves through memory, grief, and the tenderness of intergenerational love.
We spoke about his short Prisoner (2025), recently shortlisted for @youngdirectoraward at Cannes Lions. The film quietly and hauntingly follows Adam and his father, a former political prisoner, as the son begins to unravel his father’s past. It’s a story about love, inherited trauma, and bearing witness across time.
Rame also shared the story behind Eid (2024), a film shaped by personal loss and a stark reflection on systems of control over Palestinian bodies. Inspired by his uncle's story, Abdelaziz Ibrahim-a poster artist for the Palestinian Liberation Organization who was killed in an Israeli airstrike-Eid honours his uncle, his family, and the legacy carried through art.
We’re honoured to share Abdelaziz Ibrahim’s work in this feature, courtesy of Rame.
Slide 3: Bitter Fruit (1984)
Slide 4: A Blossom in Shatila (1982)
The conversation circles back to the beginning: the creative household Rame was raised in, how he slowly grew into his sensitivity to the world, and how that awareness pulses through every frame of his work.
This conversation stayed with me. Subscribe to read it first tomorrow. Link in bio.

The 2025 Arab Film Festival is proud to present Only a Baba — a heartfelt shorts program honoring Arab fathers and the quiet, complicated love that defines them.
Through a moving collection of short films, Only a Baba captures the many ways fathers show up for their children — to protect, to provide, to connect, and to heal. Whether they stumble or succeed, these stories remind us that fatherhood is rarely perfect, but often profoundly human.
Each film offers a tender reflection on love, sacrifice, and the unspoken bonds that shape us — reminding us that sometimes, trying is the greatest act of love.
✨ Experience Only a Baba at #AFF2025, screening Saturday, November 15 at 1:00 PM @ The New Parkway Theater in Oakland. ✨
