The Factory Project 01 is releasing its documentary in Lahore on this Saturday 27th of May at Cine Star Cinema Xinwa Mall. From 5.45- 7.30 pm. The Factory Project explored three phases or creative production, an exhibition, a literary book and a Documentary Film. The Documentary film is a 1 hour 30 minute feature film that explores the genre of film as a medium of exploration as well as an archive. Film as a medium of education and creative discourse. Please Join the screening to see how film can transcend the temporality of a site specific exhibition whilst marking a permanence. Its free for all to join.
Excited to share that The Factory Project 01 was very well received by The University of Exeter - South Asia Department. Talking about the project not only aids in sharing works of our artists to the global audience but also allows me to generate new ideas and discussions and the possibilities of what does the future of south asia entail.

The factory project’s Documentary film was screened this year at The University of Exeter. The Curator of the Project Rameesha Azeem was invited to give a talk about the project along with the book. @rameeshaazeem@uniexecornwall Thankyou to the University for arranging it
Ammara Jabbar reviews ‘The Factory’ which was a year-long intervention conceptualized by Rameesha Azeem, 19 artists were invited to engage with the resources available at the Chawla Footwear Factory in Lahore, Pakistan. The project culminated into a site-specific exhibition on the 30th of January 2022. Following which 9 writers worked alongside the artists to produce a publication as a response. This essay delves into some of the works displayed at the exhibition.
‘Nestled within the visible hierarchy represented by the factory itself, the dalliance of art within it carries its own invisible hierarchal pyramids. It enters in a dizzying swarm, ricocheting off the walls, falling and grappling until it tames itself. The walls suddenly become porous, some walk through, others hang in between, each shedding skin to slip into its contours. The Factory was occupied by a peculiar group, enamored by the possibilities that live within the space; but soon after they left, leaving behind a trail of stories in the minds of those who encountered it and for those who penned them as poems and anecdotes. It is the nature of the factory to paint itself grey again, become somber, become efficient. The art too, untangles itself, returns to its duplicitous state. Until another moment in time someone comes along to re-tell its tale’.

🎤 ARTIST INTERVIEW WITH RECENT RESIDENCY ARTIST RAMEESHA AZEEM 🎤
—
Rameesha Azeem (@rameeshaazeem ) was in residence at Gasworks until 9 February 2023.
Rameesha Azeem works across sculpture, installation and drawing to explore the boundaries between the individual and social body. She draws inspiration from clinical sources and histories of science to interrogate the body as a contested site; and defies binaries of soft and hard, synthetic and organic, in order to trace the tensions in society.
