Some of my favorite moments from @outsidelands last weekend with @kate.drums . Fun music and dancing, great company, and a nice bike ride home to finish the night.
June highlights: 6/3 hike with the folks, enjoying all the critters and scenery along the way. Being in the kitchen with my mom when she made rhubarb chicken from an old index card. Finding some delicious Spring Kings, intoxicating lilac, pouring a nice latte. Watching @kate.drums perform her amazing pole dance routine in LA, followed by a Tahoe staycation; backpacking in desolation wilderness and paddle boarding on the east shore.
14 years ago, June 3rd seemed like it was going to be a normal day; having a lazy morning watching one of the worst movies ever to hit Netflix (can’t recall the name, don’t really want to perpetuate its existence) with my sick girlfriend at the time. By mid-day, I had been informed of Arne’s accident in Peru; I was lost, and my life had instantaneously been changed forever. In one of only two dreams that I recall him appearing in, within the first 5 days of his passing, my brother was dirty and in tattered clothes, with a shaved head, and working in what seemed to be a mine or rail yard of sorts. The only words he said were along the lines of, “They’re working me like hell in here. Enjoy your time out there.” Today is a reminder for me that I still struggle with the grief of his loss, but that there’s so much and so many amazing people to love in this short existence called life. Hug your loved ones, check in on your friends that may deal with grief, live well, and let’s have some fun!! Cheers Arne.
Epic day in Santa Cruz for #Blastathon 6! Thanks to everyone that came out to celebrate Arne and to support the @arne_backstrom Memorial Fund (Working to provide outdoor opportunities for kids!)! For the Tahoe peeps that normally come out but couldn't get away this weekend- sorry, and we'll get a ride together when the snow melts!
