What does it take to change the culture around sexual harassment — not just the laws, but the silence? We sat down with @liftourvoices founder @gretchencarlson to find out. In our latest blog in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Gretchen shares what she's learned since becoming one of the most visible advocates for workplace accountability — and what still needs to change. The NFL’s hashtag#UnsungHeroes event is a yearly celebration, held for more than a decade during Super Bowl week, honoring organizations and programs combatting sexual and domestic violence, and the RALIANCE team was fortunate to be able to once again attend this year. We also had the chance to connect with two of our former grantees, NEWS and WEAVE. Link in bio.

Feminist author Rosalie Maggio once said, “Language both reflects and shapes society. Culture shapes language and then language shapes culture.” The words we use to talk to and about each other directly influence how we perceive and handle the problems in our world. This week, we’re examining the misuse of the term “bad apples” and how that contributes to the damaging idea that systems do not need to be held accountable alongside perpetrators. Link in bio.

Last week, we recognized HIV/AIDS Awareness Month with our article, “HIV/AIDS Awareness Month: How Employers Can Combat Stigma for Survivors with HIV/AIDS.” With many employees taking time off for winter break, we want to recommend some reading material that builds on the lessons from our last blog. This week, we’re sharing out some nonfiction recommendations that tell the real stories of people impacted by HIV/AIDS. #AIDSAwareness #Reading Link in bio.

Online abuse leaves real scars. Safety—on screen and off—must be the reality #ForAllWomenAndGirls. In our work, we have emphasized that workplaces must understand how technology can facilitate virtual and real-world abuses, and how AI is not a substitute for the necessary human-led and created policies and procedures. Therefore, workplaces should emphasize employee and consumer safety while using their tech. This #16Days, join UN Women to say #NoExcuse for online abuse. Please be sure to subscribe to our blog as well, where we will continue to discuss technology, sexual violence, and where workplaces can step in to make a change.
