Another season, another life. That’s a wrap for Stanimals Around the Bend hostel here in Hiawassee, Georgia. So many amazing hikers, stories, laughter, late nights and early mornings. You are all amazing and beautiful beyond mere words. There is magic and the light of suns and stars in all of you, and @veggiebike (Reset) and I value everything about your journeys.
It’s always a little sad to move on; we’ve made this our lives and we hope to see many of you in New Hampshire later this summer. That’s 1,768 miles from where we stand this morning. You can do it. It’s just walking, after all. 😎🥾
From the most primordial of our ancestors to today, walking heals us. It binds us and tests us, making wanderers and poets of us all. A whole bunch of stuff happened, the worst part was @alembadelic and I came within yards of hanging out but it didn’t happen. Still, we shared an experience; @bigearsfestival was fantastic in that ‘let’s all hang out’ way that too few festivals do these days.

I love abandoned places, entrances and exits are magical. I imagine a million screaming children passing through them, laughing and joyful in a present that slipped away, the lifelines are still visible to me. Kids, moms, dads, cousins and sisters, headed out to a first date or late for school. You can see this too, right?
I love standalone art; well hell maybe it ain’t art to you but jeez- when the light comes at you right and the colors are good, life is a great big beautiful outhouse, eh? Happy St. Patrick’s day, may all your urinals be clean and bright.

I was on a run in the woods today and came upon this.
It’s a rarity these days; dead decks in a forest at the end of a winter so schizophrenic, so back and forth, so dead and alive. It got me to thinking about Lorren, a dear friend who passed last week, and the great times we had throughout the decades.
From our high school years in Redwood City, slamming video games around at Malibu Grand Prix, to the Redwood forests of Humboldt County and everywhere else we crossed paths; it was always hilarious. We were definitely wavelength infinity dialed in, friends to the end. Like @indeterminateform said, “I’m sensitive about this shit, man.” 💔❤️
Lolo the fun boy. The Spaniard. Lo. Dennis the menace. Lorren. So many hats, so little time. I kept coming back to the parallels between a dead boombox and a dead friend. Tape’s run out, speakers crashed, tweeter done. Faded into dirt, left to rot. Once the center of attention, inspiring all in earshot to dance. He loved dancing. Lolo was not without his detractors, like any good madman. Nevertheless: he was a magical, spirited being who flew too high more than once, defeating the advice of Icarus. He lived on his own terms. He died by them too. May we all. Rest in peace, boom box. 💔
