Roll up, roll up! For the Clown Show 🤡 Absurdist Geoff Sobelle (@rainpan ) returns to the Festival after performances HOME and FOOD. And this time, he's brought a small army of clowns. Intrigued by the history of the travelling circus and the universality of clowns across culture, Sobelle is bringing a playful, absurd but meaningful performance to the Festival this August. Even as it all comes crashing down. Clown Show runs Thu 27 – Sun 30 August 2026 #edinburghinternationalfestival #theatre #performer

“The clown is such a rich archetype; they always appear around collapse and chaos.”–Geoff Sobelle. Theater artist Geoff Sobelle is a dedicated absurdist, drawn to illusion and the surreal in performance works like “The Object Lesson,” “Home,” and “Food. In the following conversation, Sobelle retraces his creative upbringing, describes new clown work underway, and explains the active role of the audience in his work. ___ 💡Find the link in our bio to read “Playing Through the Absurd: A Conversation with Geoff Sobelle” or visit unitedstatesartists.org/perspectives. On the wall behind him, the junk continues on a cluttered wall. Text reads “The real power of performance comes after the performance, in the bar or talking about it in the car ride home or some days later. Hopefully, it hits you. And as you're describing the project or the piece to people in the aftermath of seeing it or experiencing it, that's where the ideas start to come. It's about how it lingers with you.” Geoff Sobelle. SIFA 2025 might be over, but the stories and emotions from our shows are continuing on – and hitting deep. 💥 In Difficult Devotions, writers open up about their journeys with these shows, sharing beautifully written ruminations. ✍️💭   In her piece, Keshia Naurana Badalge reflects on the show HOME and its central question: What exactly is the relationship between a house and a home? 🏠 It is a physical place, it is the people within it, and it is something ever shifting – a space to rest our bodies and leave our marks, however briefly, while we are here. 💖   Here are some poignant excerpts. For the full list of works, visit sifa.sg or click the link in bio   #SIFA2025 #SIFAMoreThanEver
