Selections: Rainmaker 🔌 The vibrant electronic music scene in Medellín, Colombia’s second-largest city, has become the stuff of legend in recent years, with major players like Tomorrowland, EDC and RESISTANCE flocking to host events in its leafy suburbs. But venture off the beaten track and you’ll find a bustling community of underground mavericks led by label-of-the-moment, TraTraTrax, who are cooking up club brews sure to send even the most seasoned reveller into nocturnal delirium. Amongst them is Rainmaker, who has been making a splash both at home and abroad with his heavy-duty productions that blend the power of techno with the warmth of Colombian rhythms. Last month, the DJ and producer returned to his Artificio imprint with a new emotionally-charged EP that expanded his sound in new directions. Equal parts urgent and restrained, ‘Exótica’ swirled together strands of icy IDM, frenetic techno, bass and Latin club with subtlety, nuance and an eye on the dancefloor. The result is a sound that feels ultra-modern with a calibre that never dips across four cuts.
