Español abajo 👇 More than 1,000 baby turtles are finally home🐢 In 2023, these yellow-spotted and Arrau river turtles were seized from traffickers at Lima’s airport—some so young they still had their umbilical cords attached. Last week, they were released back into the Amazon, into the territory of the Yagua community of Yanayacu, whose stewardship of their forest gives these turtles their best chance to survive. This release was made possible thanks to the collaboration of Peruvian authorities, Indigenous organizations, and allies working together to protect wildlife and fight illegal trafficking.

Without forests, there is no future. Last year alone, the world lost an area of primary tropical forest more than 20 times the size of Yosemite. In the Amazon, fires became the leading cause of forest loss for the first time on record. Indigenous peoples are on the frontlines of this crisis, leading the fight to protect forests, their territories, and the planet we all depend on. Now is the time to stand with Indigenous communities on the frontlines, before the window for meaningful action closes. ➡️ Learn how you can support (🔗 in bio) #Rainforest #protectnature

This week, we came together at United for the Amazon to strengthen connection and collaboration around Indigenous-led solutions for the Amazon. We gathered around three essential pillars: securing land rights, strengthening territorial governance, and building regenerative forest economies that keep forests standing and support communities. Thank you to Thalia Cachimuel (@tata_bussss ) for leading the evening with such power and grace, and to Manari Ushigua (@manariushigua ) for centering the gathering in ceremony. We are also honored to have had the collaboration with the Forest Guardians Bioeconomy Accelerator of UNDP. We are grateful to everyone who joined us, we look forward to continuing building this together. 🌎 The Earth needs us. Every species, including humans, play a role in sustaining the intricate web of life on Earth. This Earth Day, let's recognize that we are not defending some distant nature. We are defending our only home. The home that makes life possible. Indigenous peoples have protected their forests for generations, but they shouldn’t have to stand alone. Earth is counting on us. Will you act today? 📢P.S. In honor of Earth Day, a generous donor is matching all gifts, dollar for dollar, up to $20,000. Double your impact today. #earthdayeveryday #EarthDay

🌱 ¡Fortaleciendo nuestra integridad y liderazgo!

👏🐢Good news from the Amazon: More than 1,000 baby yellow-spotted and Arrau river turtles have been returned home after being rescued from traffickers. ⚠️Wildlife trafficking is a $20 billion global industry pushing many species to the brink of extinction. Indigenous peoples are among the most effective stewards of biodiversity and powerful allies to fight this global crisis. We’re proud to support community-led monitoring to help these turtles thrive.

“What if we could come together as women, find solutions to these issues on our own, work together, and be there for each other?” This is the question that led Surujani Robinson to begin organizing for women’s rights in the North Pakaraimas mountains of Guyana. Today, through the Patamasan Protectors of I'na Pata (PPIP), she and her colleagues are advancing women’s leadership, promoting gender equality, and confronting gender-based vio.lence in their communities. Today, on International Women's Day, we are proud to launch our Gender and Social Inclusion Strategy, strengthening our commitment to support our partners in identifying and addressing gender and social inclusion gaps through co-created, partner-led approaches. ¡Berta vive, la lucha sigue! Long live Berta Cáceres. March 2nd marks 10 years since the assa.ssination of Indigenous environmental defender Berta Cáceres. In 2015, Lenca leader Berta Cáceres delivered this powerful speech upon receiving the Goldman Environmental Prize for mobilizing her people to successfully pressure the world’s largest dam builder to withdraw from the Agua Zarca project at the Río Gualcarque. One year later, Berta was mur.dered in her home. Her death was a direct attempt to silence the Lenca resistance to the destruction of their territory. Berta’s voice lives on in movements around the world fighting to protect forests, rivers, and the rights of Indigenous peoples. Join us in honoring her legacy and stand with all those who continue to fight for a more just and sustainable future. Berta co-founded @copinh to support Indigenous people's rights in her country, Honduras. The organization continues that struggle today. 📽️Video credit @goldmanprize
