This year, @amiawards win with LOVE IS feels more special than usual,
as many of our contemporaries regard our music as extremely complex and therefore presents a high degree of resistance for the listeners.
These complexities and resistance arise from the way we use different traditions—jazz, metal, rock, classical music,etc.—to pose questions and to problematize them rather than a simple quotation gesture. In other words those traditions are being used to not merely create a safe space for listener, but to create an uncanny liminal space where the listener’s own imagination can actively flourish as a result of the encounter with the aforementioned resistance.
This awards is a testament that there is still a place for subversiveness and experimentation. Thank you @amiawards .
