On May 17, a life-size chocolate sculpture of trans model @rainbatingana will melt live on stream — and she wants you to watch.
The piece is called “Passion of the Christ.” Artist @cosimocavallaroart cast her body in silicone, laser-scanned her face, and built a life-size chocolate Jesus in her image. Seven cameras. Three hours. A global livestream. And Rain at the center of all of it — not as a subject, but as a co-author.
“For my whole life, I’ve been told my body is wrong, political, debatable, disposable,” she tells POLISH. “But I believe my body is not a sin. It’s not a joke. It’s not a threat.”
Trans women’s bodies have been conscripted as symbols for arguments they were never invited into. This is something different. This is Rain, on her own terms, asking the world to reckon with whose body gets to be sacred — and whose gets to survive.
The sculpture will dissolve. Chocolate Jesus will melt. But as Rain puts it, our existence shouldn’t.
