A workshop by Palestinian dancer and founder of @streetdabka@samerkaraja at @bakbasecamp on invitation by curator @raidanisms was one to remember. Samer, who is part of the famous @elfunoun_troupe took us on a journey to the roots of Palestinian dabke. He did not just share the steps and moves, he explained the connection between the farmer, the land and the dance. And made us feel the meaning of ‘dal’ona’ (come and help a hand), which is actually the root of dabke. No one is alone, we are in this together.
It was a true honor and pleasure to work together and we can’t wait to do this again in the future.
Many thanks as well to the Young Revolt community at @bakbasecamp who created this true community experience with us.

𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙜 𝙍𝙚𝙫𝙤𝙡𝙩 is a series of events organized by Raidan Baqi, Yemeni artist and former BAK Young Fellow. Catering to a younger crowd, he’s preparing different kinds of gatherings: peer-to-peer workshops for and by youth, spoken word, an evening on food and nourishing, pop-up exhibitions, discussions and sharings focused on collective
At tomorrow’s edition of 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙜 𝙍𝙚𝙫𝙤𝙡𝙩, Raidan Baqi and Amro Jaber, offer you 𝗮 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 – of their food and their story. On the 21st of September 2014, the Houthi militias infiltrated Sanaa and sabotaged all attempts to rebuild the country of Yemen, that had just come out of civil war. Ever since that day, Raidan, Amro, their family and many others became political refugees.
This evening aims to raise awareness for one of the many human rights violations of the Houthi militias against their own people. Their actions have led the UN to classify Yemen as the worst humanitarian crisis in the World. You are invited to experience and learn about Yemeni culture and grief.
𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙜 𝙍𝙚𝙫𝙤𝙡𝙩 takes over the b.ASIC a.CTIVIST k.ITCHEN for the evening and will serve a delicious Yemeni menu of Kabsa, Shafoot, Baba ganoush and Yemeni bread – all vegan, of course. These dishes all build up to the final piece, a dessert that tells the story of Yemen. After dinner, there will be a 🎥 screening of 𝘽𝙧𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙈𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙛𝙞𝙚𝙡𝙙, a documentary by Yemeni activist, film maker and journalist Hana Saleh. This documentary depicts the consequences of landmines on people and cilvilians, on women and children of Yemen.
