I’ve never felt comfortable sharing this on here. It’s been well over a year since I published my first personal documentary, ROOTED: A timeless struggle of hair and heritage. At first, it felt like a long rant about how I felt like I wasn’t good enough, endless burnt out and my hair falling victim in the self-inflicted processes. I dug deeper, forcibly, and it took more out of me than I expected. Linking so many parts of my identity that I hadn’t really before, felt like the burden I had placed on myself in just one area spanned over generations. The guilt built up. The end result was beautiful but also incredibly overwhelming; every breath word and emotion I expressed on screen was the reality of my life at the time. It’s my most vulnerable creation thus far. I’m incredibly thankful for the lovers in my life that were a part of this. You made this story bloom. I hope and long to continue growing my visual artistry.
