One question I get asked often: Where do you learn to do that? Dancing with fire is not something you can just learn at a dance studio or something you can just pick up and do. You can’t just start fires anywhere and it is a serious art form. Safety is the number 1 thing and that includes having insurance, preventative safety measures as well as necessary equipment. Knowing how to practice fire art safely starts with finding a good teacher/mentor. There are somethings you should consult professionals on and I would advise you to not skip this step… and yes, I started with mentors also😅 learning from someone will save you from some very painful mistakes. Another helpful thing is knowing where to practice. This video was taken at one of my cherished practice spaces in LA. Living in SoCal, the fire department takes safety quite seriously and having a safe space to practice where you have access to others for support and inspiration is a huge plus. I can honestly say that I wouldn’t be the performer I am now if I hadn’t practiced fire weekly for years at various fire jams. Life has been interesting lately (good,bad, indifferent, and better than anything I’ve ever know in this life), but no matter how things are, I know Im on the right path because moments like this still happen, and it’s really the journey that makes life beautiful, that’s why I keep going, because I’ve fell in love with the journey, not the destination. So I encourage everyone to just live in the moment and enjoy every minute because in the end, all you have is the memories of the moments where you truly feel alive, so why not embrace who you are and fill your life with more of those moments.
