The one and only @djxtina spins at @visitpham every first, third and fourth Friday of the month through June & my artwork will be projected as the backdrop while people listen, dance and hang out in the great stair well. My mural, ‘Sugar, Sweat and Soil’ pays homage to the generations whose labor made my life as an artist possible today. I reference the sugarcane my grandfather harvested in Guyana, the fruit my great grandfather fed me and my cousins on his lap, and grandmothers I have come to know only through stories and inherited memory.
I hope that sharing the connection I have to my familial roots sparks others to do the same.
