VE Day — 8 May 1945 Moments of celebration, relief and reflection marked the end of the war in Europe 81 years ago today. These photographs show VE Day celebrations at Beaulieu and form part of a collection compiled by Mrs Margaret Terret relating to her RAF service during the Second World War, later reunions and post-war civilian life. Today we remember the service and sacrifice of RAF personnel, their families and all those whose lives were shaped by the conflict. It’s #VEDay! ✌️🎉 Today we’re honouring the vital contributions of the RAF men and women who helped secure victory for the Allies in the Second World War. @rafmuseum Midlands is a great place to learn more. Their collection spans more than 100 years of the Royal Air Force’s history and is home to the world’s oldest Spitfire. With #NationalLottery support, they’re transforming the museum for a new generation of visitors. Plans include the redevelopment of a 1930s hangar as a new exhibition and learning centre, creation of new outdoor spaces, and an activity programme to engage local and underserved communities. We’re proud to help connect people with this important heritage and safeguard it for the future.
