“In ‘The Society of the Spectacle ‘ (1967), Guy Debord argues that modern society is dominated by appearances, where images no longer merely represent reality but replace it. The spectacle is not just a collection of images but a social relationship between people mediated by images. It renders humans passive spectators, alienated from real social relations and trapped in a cycle of commodified imagery….
…Beyond its social dimension, however, the zoo also encompasses a psychological aspect, reflecting the fearful tendency to categorize and control what is deemed the ‘Other.’ It embodies the unconscious impulse to separate our familiar self from our wild, unruly, and unknown nature, projecting these fears onto the caged animals.”
