✨ Celebrating 10 Years of SCAD FASH ✨ ROBERT WUN: BETWEEN REALITY AND FANTASY Nov. 11, 2021 to March 27, 2022 Robert Wun’s designs move between imagination and futurism, creating garments that feel both sculptural and deeply emotional. For Between Reality and Fantasy, his first museum exhibition, we set out to build an installation that echoed the visionary spirit of his work while revealing the quiet poetry within each silhouette. Nature guided much of the curatorial approach. The asymmetry of wings and organic forms shaped how the garments were placed and lit, allowing the contrast between soft pleating and armour like structure to emerge with clarity. Each look was arranged to highlight movement, shadow, and the narrative rhythm that connects his collections. Curating Robert’s first museum exhibition was an honour, and witnessing his continued ascent has been a joy. His voice in contemporary fashion grows stronger with every collection, and SCAD FASH is proud to have played a part in his early museum trajectory. 📷 Photography by Colin Gray SCAD alumnus, BFA Photography, 2004 Hashtags #SCADFASH #SCADFASH10 #RobertWun #BetweenRealityAndFantasy #FashionExhibition #ContemporaryDesign #SculpturalFashion #SCAD #SCADAtlanta #MuseumExhibition

✨ Celebrating 10 Years of SCAD FASH ✨ FREEHAND PROFIT: FACE VALUE April 19 to Sept. 18, 2022 There are artists who transform materials, and then there are artists who transform meaning. Gary Lockwood, known globally as @freehandprofit , does both with astonishing precision and poetic force. An extraordinary artist and an equally extraordinary human being, Gary deconstructs rare and coveted sneakers and reimagines them as sculptural masks that feel at once ancestral, futuristic, and deeply personal. Rooted in the spirit of hip hop, his masks carry the weight of cultural memory. Each piece is painstakingly reassembled from iconic shoes such as Nike Air Max, Travis Scott Jordan 1s, Yeezys, Doernbecher Jordans, SB Dunks, and Asics, their markings and histories preserved, honoured, and elevated. These masks become protective talismans for our time, charged with the energy of resistance, identity, and survival in the face of civil unrest, war, and climate crisis. More than thirty works from collectors around the world came together for Freehand Profit: Face Value, the first museum exhibition devoted to Lockwood’s visionary practice. Each mask stands as a tribute to the emcees, DJs, graffiti artists, and b boys who built the foundation of hip hop culture, a culture that shaped Gary’s own life from Virginia and the Washington D.C. area to Los Angeles. In 2010, after a year long creative sprint titled MASK365, the first sneaker gas mask emerged and so did Freehand Profit. Since then, Gary has created more than two hundred masks, earning collaborations with Nike, Adidas, Cadillac Europe, Puma, Reebok, Champs Sports, and Foot Locker, along with the admiration of collectors worldwide. His practice is rigorous, inventive, and endlessly evolving, guided by a sincerity and generosity that reflect the remarkable person he is. It was an honour to meet Gary and to curate this exhibition. His vision, kindness, and talent continue to inspire all of us at SCAD FASH. 📷 Photography by Colin Gray SCAD alumnus, BFA Photography, 2004 #SCADFASH #SCADFASH10 #FreehandProfit #GaryLockwood #FaceValue #SneakerCulture #MaskArt #HipHopArt #ContemporaryArt #FashionExhibition

✨ Celebrating 10 Years of SCAD FASH ✨ Albert Watson: The Light Behind the Lens On view: January 21 – October 17, 2021 Curating Albert Watson: The Light Behind the Lens was an extraordinary privilege. To work with one of the most influential photographers of our time is to step inside a world where light, shadow, and emotion merge with absolute mastery. This exhibition became a meditation on vision itself, inviting our guests to experience the intensity and beauty that define Watson’s unmistakable photographic language. Albert Watson’s career spans more than five decades, shaping the way we see fashion, portraiture, and culture. His iconic images including the portrait of Steve Jobs, fashion stories for Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, and landscapes that feel sculpted by light reveal an artist who approaches every frame with precision, intimacy, and profound curiosity. His work is not simply photography. It is myth-making. The exhibition featured more than one hundred photographs that spanned fashion, celebrity portraiture, still life, and personal projects. Each gallery was designed to draw visitors into Watson’s meticulous world, one defined by stark contrasts, cinematic composition, and a palpable sense of atmosphere. Guests encountered Polaroids, contact sheets, and behind-the-scenes insights that illuminated his process and the quiet power behind each image. Working with Albert Watson was a lesson in discipline and devotion to craft. His approach reminds us that photography at its highest level is a dialogue between the eye and the soul. His images stay with you, lingering long after you leave the gallery, echoing with light, memory, and meaning. ✨ Celebrating 10 Years of SCAD FASH ✨ Ruth E. Carter: Afrofuturism in Costume Design On view: December 17, 2020 – September 12, 2021 Curating Ruth E. Carter: Afrofuturism in Costume Design was an honor and a profound creative journey. It was also one of the most challenging projects I’ve ever undertaken, curated entirely via Zoom during the pandemic. In a time defined by the election, the Black Lives Matter movement, and the global uncertainty of COVID, this exhibition carried immense cultural and emotional significance. Ruth E. Carter’s work transcends fashion and film. Her filmography — including Black Panther, Selma, Malcolm X, and Do the Right Thing — captures the African American narrative with brilliance, integrity, and imagination. Through her designs, she constructs living portraits of history, identity, and empowerment, shaping the language of cinema itself. The exhibition featured more than 60 costumes from across her remarkable career, from Roots to Coming 2 America, displayed in immersive environments reflecting Ruth’s own artistry. Guests could explore rare sketches, research materials, and a behind-the-scenes view of her design process. The installation also incorporated original artwork by SCAD alumnus Brandon Sadler, whose murals appeared in Black Panther, expanding the dialogue between costume, culture, and Afrofuturism. Working with Ruth was a true privilege. She is a visionary, a historian of culture through cloth, and a storyteller whose medium is color, texture, and meaning. Her artistry reminds us that costume design is not merely visual — it is a form of narrative, identity, and revolution. Check out her inspiring book The Art of Ruth E. Carter, with exhibition photography by SCAD alumnus Colin Douglas Gray, capturing the power and detail of her unforgettable creations. #SCADFASH #SCAD #RuthECarter #AfrofuturismInCostumeDesign #10YearsOfStyle #StyleIsForever #CostumeDesign #BlackPanther #FashionCurator #Afrofuturism #SCADAlumni #TheArtOfRuthECarter

✨ Celebrating 10 Years of SCAD FASH ✨ Form & Function: Shoe Art by Chris Francis On view: August 13 – December 31, 2019 Curating Form & Function was a fantastic experience. Chris Francis is a brilliant artist and one of the most sincere and thoughtful collaborators I’ve had the privilege to work with. His work is not only visually arresting but deeply intellectual, a true embodiment of wearable art. The exhibition featured his Bauhaus and Brutalism collections, the Constructivism series that led into his vibrant Pop Art pieces, and other designs inspired by everything from Dadaism and Tramp Art to Devo, Ferragamo, and the book You Can’t Win by Jack Black. His shoes drew on the radical energy of punk music, the geometry of Cubism, and the surrealism of Dalí and Picasso, always with a nod to found objects, mechanics, and the spirit of Los Angeles and his steel-town roots in Indiana. Each creation was meticulously crafted to be both thought-provoking and functional, merging precision engineering with artistic imagination. Every shoe invited viewers to see design as a statement, architecture, and reflection of culture in motion. #SCADFASH #SCAD #ChrisFrancis #FormAndFunction #10YearsOfStyle #StyleIsForever #FashionAsArt #ShoeDesign #WearableArt #PunkToPop #FashionCurator

✨ Celebrating 10 Years of SCAD FASH ✨ KALEIDOSCOPE KATRANTZOU: Mary Katrantzou, 10 Years in Fashion On view: April 9 – September 22, 2019 Curating this exhibition was a dazzling journey through illusion, structure, and imagination. KALEIDOSCOPE KATRANTZOU celebrated a decade of Mary Katrantzou’s extraordinary vision — where fashion becomes architecture, ornament, and optical art. The exhibition showcased her most iconic works, from digitally engineered prints to sculptural silhouettes that blurred the boundaries between garment and sculpture. Each look was a study in balance — intellect and emotion, mathematics and beauty, precision and play. Working with Mary and her London studio was a privilege. Her commitment to innovation and her poetic approach to design reminded me that fashion, at its highest level, is a form of intellectual art — one that transforms the way we see and experience the world. #SCADFASH #SCAD #MaryKatrantzou #KaleidoscopeKatrantzou #10YearsOfStyle #StyleIsForever #FashionAsArt #TextileDesign #FashionCurator

✨ Celebrating 10 Years of SCAD FASH ✨ Unapologetic Lines: The Fashion Illustrations of Marc-Antoine Coulon On view: February 10 – June 16, 2019 Curating Unapologetic Lines was pure joy — a celebration of elegance, wit, and attitude through the hand of one of fashion’s most distinctive illustrators. Marc-Antoine Coulon’s portraits capture the very soul of fashion — unapologetic, glamorous, and alive with gesture. His work bridges eras and emotions, from timeless icons to fleeting moments of beauty, always drawn with restraint, precision, and a sense of theatrical grace. The exhibition brought together some of his most striking works — portraits of designers, models, and muses who define the rhythm of contemporary style — alongside original drawings created exclusively for SCAD FASH. It was an immense pleasure to collaborate directly with Marc-Antoine, whose warmth and humor are as unforgettable as his art. His ability to distill character into a single line reminds us that true style is not about perfection, but presence. #SCADFASH #SCAD #MarcAntoineCoulon #UnapologeticLines #SCADFASHat10 #10YearsOfStyle #StyleIsForever #FashionIllustration #FashionCurator

✨ Celebrating 10 Years of SCAD FASH ✨ Pierre Cardin: Pursuit of the Future On view: March 27 – October 28, 2018 A major retrospective honoring one of fashion’s most visionary designers — Pierre Cardin. Curating this exhibition was a thrilling deep dive into Cardin’s world of innovation, geometry, and modernism. His belief that “the clothes I prefer are the garments I invent for a lifestyle that does not yet exist — the world of tomorrow” guided every element of the show. From his futuristic silhouettes in vinyl and chrome to his radical unisex tailoring, Cardin imagined a future where design transcended gender, material, and convention. It was truly spectacular to work alongside Marise Gaspard, longtime Director of Couture at the House of Cardin, and Jean-Pascal Hesse, Director of Communications, whose insight and generosity brought the designer’s legacy to life. Their collaboration added depth and authenticity to every detail of the exhibition. Presented in partnership with the Pierre Cardin Museum in Paris, this exhibition celebrated an extraordinary creative vision that redefined the very idea of fashion as architecture and invention. #SCADFASH #SCAD #PierreCardin #PursuitOfTheFuture #SCADFASHat10 #10YearsOfStyle #StyleIsForever #FashionAsArt #FuturistFashion #InnovationInDesign #MariseGaspard #JeanPascalHesse #FashionCurator

Dressing for Dystopia: The Handmaid’s Tale Costumes by Ane Crabtree — On view: April 20 – August 12, 2018 — explored the visual language of power, control, and resistance through costume design. Curating this exhibition with @alex_sachs was an extraordinary experience. Working closely with Ane Crabtree, I was deeply inspired by how she uses costume to build worlds and challenge our collective conscience. Her designs for The Handmaid’s Tale move far beyond clothing — they become symbols of identity, subjugation, and ultimately, defiance. The exhibition presented original costumes from the series, including the handmaids’ crimson robes, commanders’ uniforms, and the hauntingly meticulous garments of Gilead’s rigid social order. Each piece revealed the psychological and political precision of Ane’s vision — fashion as both mirror and warning. #SCADFASH #SCAD #AneCrabtree #DressingForDystopia #TheHandmaidsTale #SCADFASHat10 #10YearsOfStyle #StyleIsForever #CostumeDesign #FashionAsNarrative #CinematicStyle #FashionCurator

✨ Celebrating 10 Years of SCAD FASH ✨ A landmark in SCAD FASH’s first decade, Guo Pei: Couture Beyond — On view: September 7, 2017 – March 4, 2018 — marked the U.S. debut of one of the world’s most visionary designers. Presented jointly by the SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film and the SCAD Museum of Art, the exhibition celebrated Guo Pei’s extraordinary artistry and her role in bridging Eastern heritage and Western couture. Featuring more than thirty masterworks from her most iconic collections — including Legend, L’Architecture, and Magnificent Gold — the exhibition traced Guo Pei’s journey from Beijing’s pioneering ateliers to the global stage. Each creation, hand-embroidered and rich with symbolism, revealed her devotion to craft and her boundless imagination. It was a true pleasure to have curated this exhibition — even through language barriers, the collaboration was remarkable and deeply enriching. I learned so much from Guo Pei and her team, whose discipline and artistry remain unforgettable. Equally spectacular was the publication of the accompanying exhibition catalog — a beautifully produced volume that captured the detail, grandeur, and vision of Couture Beyond for audiences around the world. The book includes 122 original images shot by HOWL Collective, each presented in full-page splendor. It’s quite nice to finally have something to physically hold in my hand — a lasting reflection of that extraordinary collaboration. #SCADFASH #SCAD #GuoPei #CoutureBeyond #SCADFASHat10 #10YearsOfStyle #StyleIsForever #HauteCouture #FASHIONCURATOR #HOWLCollective

✨ Celebrating 10 Years of SCAD FASH ✨ A defining moment in SCAD FASH’s first decade, “Carolina Herrera: Refined Irreverence” marked the first museum exhibition of Herrera’s work, celebrating the 35th anniversary of the House of Herrera. Presented jointly by the SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film and the SCAD Museum of Art, the exhibition featured more than 75 garments — from Herrera’s 1981 inaugural collection to contemporary designs — showcasing her enduring legacy of modern elegance and innovation. SCAD also debuted an original short film, Refined Irreverence, produced by students and alumni with Ways and Means, the award-winning company led by SCAD alumnus Ryan Dickie (B.F.A., Film and Television, 2006), offering an intimate portrait of Herrera’s storied career. With deep gratitude to Patricia Herrera Lansing, whose collaboration with me as curator made this exhibition a heartfelt tribute to her mother’s vision. The presentation also featured a life-size zebra sculpture by SCAD alumna Emily Nelms Perez (B.F.A., Painting), inspired by Herrera’s 2010 campaign and bridging fashion with art. The exhibition’s striking poster showcased a magnificent illustration by David Downton, capturing Herrera’s timeless elegance with signature grace. Wishing continued success to the House of Herrera under creative director Wes Gordon, as the brand continues its legacy of refined irreverence. #SCADFASH #SCAD #CarolinaHerrera #RefinedIrreverence #PatriciaHerreraLansing #EmilyNelmsPerez #RyanDickie #DavidDownton #WesGordon #10YearsOfStyle #SCADFASHat10 #StyleIsForever
