"От негатива до отпечатъка" е двудневно събитие, посветено на аналоговата фотография като цялостен творчески процес – от момента на превизуализацията до финалния отпечатък. Това е възможност да преживееш фотографията из основи – със собствения ти ритъм.
В началото на уъркшопа всеки участник ще избере една камера – 35мм, среден или голям формат – с която ще работи през двата дни. Това е отправна точка за изследване на един ключов въпрос: дали нашата изразност е критерият за избор на техника или техниката определя фотографското преживяване? Ще снимаме поставена задача, ще проявим заснетите негативи и ще отпечатаме изображенията в лабораторията ни, чрез класически Сребърно-желатинов процес – техника, която превръща изображението в позитивен, осезаем обект.
RadLab осигурява фотоматериалите и камери в три формата, но насърчаваме участниците да донесат и своите лични (ако имат такива) – така ще изградим пъстра, споделена среда за експерименти и диалог между подходи, стилове и навици.
💡 Работилницата е подходяща както за напълно начинаещи, така и за автори, които искат да преминат през целия аналогов процес или да вкусят от работата с нови формати негативи.

A 5-Minute Walkthrough
In a working darkroom, your paper is vulnerable from moment it leaves the sleeve till it hits the fixer. If the Reflective Density (RD) changes during this time window, you are being doomed.
Hunting for the Threshold
Safelight fogging is a hidden parasite. It might stay invisible on a blank sheet, but once your enlarger “primes” the paper, that extra safelight energy pushes the emulsion over the limit.
The Case Studies: Visual Examination

The Verdict:
Safelight fog attacks the entire tonal scale. It muddies the whites and chokes the shadow detail, leading to a total loss of contrast.
The Takeaway: Don’t Trust Your Eyes
The most dangerous thing in a darkroom is a light that looks safe but isn’t. Spectral sensitivity takes place within very tight wavelengths, not in every red light. Just because your eyes see “red” doesn’t mean your paper isn’t reacting to invisible spectral leakage.

The Primitive Photography weekend passed quietly, without many things: fuss, lenses and eventually cameras.
We spent Saturday coating paper with emulsion and letting the sun take over. Even with a lower UV index than we hoped for, exposures were less than 8 hours, so the shadows found their place. It’s a reminder that photography is essentially a physical law and it happens with or without our interference.
Sunday was dedicated to our beloved Pinhole photography, along with many other enthusiasts around the globe. Paper negatives and X-ray films did what they do best—proving that lensless photography suffers from no complex regarding its lack of glass. Plus, some extra documentation revealed things beyond the flesh that we probably weren’t meant to see—mostly ghosts. Thank you all for sharing this Sunday between both ends of the light spectrum.

We’re sharing a few snaps from our first B&W film developing workshop of the season.
Slides 1–6 are some of the results made by @antoni_bratanov These images were shot and developed on-site. They are the physical evidence of the process and the final act of closing the loop. From exposure to the final rinse, the logic of the lab is visible in the halides.
Slides 7–10 are the digital documentation of the session in motion.
The first session of our workshop season proved that curiosity is the only prerequisite for the lab.

Don’t be a passenger.
Most point-and-shoots are “black box” systems. They take away your control over shutter and aperture, but they also hide the most important variable: the ISO.
Hacking the DX code is your backdoor into the system. It is the only way to manually override the exposure algorithm and force an automatic camera to obey your creative intent. And yet, the system is fragile. If you’re shooting a non-coded film like Berlin 400, your camera doesn’t know what to do. It falls back to a factory default (often ISO 100) meaning you’re overexposing your film by 2 full stops before you even frame the shot.
THE PROTOCOL:
The DX code is a simple binary language. Conductive metal vs. Insulated paint. By “hacking” the top row of the 12-square grid, you can force the lightmeter to work for you, not against you.
THE OVERRIDE:
This is a global adjustment. Once the pins make contact, you’ve rewritten the laws for the entire film roll.
We don’t “trick” the system. We re-program the interface.

Тази работилница е идеална за всички, които тепърва навлизат в аналоговата фотография. Ще работим във фотографска лаборатория и ще изследваме феномена “фоточувствителност”, като създаваме изображения директно – без фотоапарат, само със светлина, сенки и малко химия. Ще експериментираме със светлинни отпечатъци, химиграми, фотограми и основни принципи на фотографския процес. Тук няма грешен подход, само открития.
📅 26.04. | Международен ден на безобективната фотография (Worldwide Pinhole Day)
Всяка година в последната неделя на април хиляди хора по света отбелязват Деня на безобективната фотография, като създават изображения с примитивна, но изключително въздействаща техника – пинхол фотография. В тази работилница ще изработим собствени pinhole камери и ще снимаме с тях върху различни фоточувствителни материали. Лабораторна работа по проявяване на изображенията, също няма да липсва. Резултатите ще споделим в международна платформа, заедно с всички участници по света.

ID-68 isn’t some generic “safe” soup you’d find at the neighborhood camera shop.
It is nitro for shadow detail, actively increasing the effective ISO of the film. Our densitometer measured an average 0.15 density increase in Zone II—the “toe” of the characteristic curve. In camera language 0.15 is exactly 1/2 of a stop. Imagine shooting a 400 ISO film and pulling shadow detail as if it were 640 ISO. Not bad for a 50s era developer.
That “Nitro” effect is fueled by Phenidone. It makes it the perfect developer if you are listening to BJM’s Methodrone while developing a film as old as the album itself.

A fellow photographer returned from the USA with a bag of “ghosts” shot on a Minolta TC-1. These films endured a gauntlet of ionizing radiation: a fresh Ilford HP5+ exposed to 5 airport scanners and a 40-year-old ORWO NP27 exposed to 9 scanners.
The Exorcism
To rescue these frames, we moved away from standard developers and mixed a batch of ID-68. This is a Phenidone-based, speed-increasing formula designed to pull a clean signal out of a foggy grave.
The Development:
HP5+ (fresh / 5 scanners exposure): ID-68 (1+1) / 11min @ 20°C
NP27 (40yr-old / 9 scanners exposure): ID-68 (1+1) / 14 mins @ 20°C
The results were a mathematical provocation:
-HP5+ Dmin: 0.92
-ORWO NP27 Dmin: 1.1
The gap between the victims is only 0.2 density.
ID-68 isn’t just a developer; it is a chemical exorcism.
The Logic
Base Fog isn’t an act of God, it’s a variable we can control. To put this in perspective, these results were compared to a reference: test from our archives: a 40-year-old ORWO NP22 exposed to 4 airport scanners and developed in the same ID-68 (1+1) but with 0.003% solution Benzotriazole (BTZ) added as a restrainer.
Dmin (Base Fog) comparison:
-Fresh HP5+: 0.92
-40-yr-old NP22: 0.64 Dmin
A 40-year-old “dead” film could be physically clearer than a fresh roll of Ilford.
The Verdics
The “Airport Panic” treats the X-ray like a death sentence. Our densitometer proves that we are in control.
Knowledge is your best lead bag, but a hand-check is still your best defense. Always ask the authorities at the airport to hand-check your film.

RadLab Workshops 2026 — календарът е тук. Регистрациите са отворени.
Тази година подреждаме програмата като поредица от самостоятелни преживявания, които заедно изграждат цялостно разбиране за емулсионната фотография – от първия контакт със светлочувствителния материал до комплексни печатни процеси. Това, което ги обединява е възможността да изграждаме собствен визуален език през фотографските похвати – да превеждаме знанието в израз, а процеса в лична фотографска позиция.
Както винаги, подхождаме към фотографията през нейната материалност. Знанието, което споделяме, стъпва върху научни принципи, емпирични данни и практическия ни опит. И точно там, където всичко изглежда подредено и ясно, си позволяваме резки експериментални завои – процеси, в които случайността, грешката и играта стават част от механизмите.
Програмата ни включва:
– Foundations курсове за хора, които искат да започнат или да изградят стабилна основа (и да могат да работят самостоятелно вкъщи)
– Lab Experiments – пространства за експеримент, намеса и разклащане на фотографския образ

Работилниците са отворени както за напълно начинаещи, така и за хора с опит.
Но ако има едно общо изискване, то е любопитството – онзи тип интерес, който не търси бърз резултат, а иска да разбере как и защо се случва фотографския образ.
Ако ти се работи с ръце, ако ти се мисли през процеси, ако работата на червена светлина ти понася – вероятно ще си на правилното място с още много други като теб.
