4/20 - this song is a wild one.
MIDDLE CLASS MAGIC was born while working in Jersey City. Countless meetings with robust personalities & business chodes in both cannabis & music; I would find myself in meetings as the only person that was not an owner of a million dollar non profit, or a successful large international company. I’d be expected to share my ideas, bringing some perspective to the callous.
I was once summonsed to a rooftop studio in Newport, Jersey city. This studio has recorded voices & songs for Nickelodeon, Disney, Cartoon Network, & even some Broadway show tunes. The studio owner/engineer, a Grammy award winning producer had brought me in one day to perform in front of him, & an Emmy award winning television producer.
They asked me play an acoustic song I wrote & sing for them both. When the song finished, they told me to play it again, but this time “like I meant it.” These guys were old & have more connections than me so I obliged & went right back into the song, this time, trying to let loose. But alas, there were two old judgemental dudes in front of me that could never understand what I was trying to do. After the 2nd run through they asked me the name of the song. It had a different working title, but this time I told them the song was called MIDDLE CLASS MAGIC which I had come up with in that moment. Because it was finally clear to me why I was there. I had something valuable that they couldn’t grasp, a tether to reality. That MIDDLE CLASS MAGIC, bb.
