R4: ONE MORE TIME
Some final reflections on the temporary community space that consumed much of my 2025 — a real emotional rollercoaster.
We set out to build a temporary space that would host as much as diverse programming as possible. And R4 did — 114 different events over less than 4 months. Dance, DJ’s, live music, intentional listening, guest sound systems, experimental wellness, book-reading, design, wine, food & so much more. Most typical feedback was some variation of ”we’ve never had a space to do this before”
Financially R4 was no success. People liked spending time & money with us, but the cost structure of building a fully functional space from scratch, for such a short time, was simply not feasible in the end.
Some cost overruns were due to personal non-negotiables (acoustic treatment of entire space, high-quality sound system, fair compensation for staff & our program partners). Others stemmed from subpar solutions to essential infrastructure needs (that cursed Lassila & Tikanoja WC container).
Anyway. That is water under the bridge now. What I personally lost on R4 was luckily off-setted by other projects. What remains are some spectacular memories of joy & community. Also a commitment to the initial vision behind R4: for culture to evolve, it absolutely needs new spaces. But it also needs new operating models for running them.
To those of you asking: no, we’re not doing R4 again next summer. If stars align, we just might do some other space, some other model, some other concept ❤️
It’s been an ambient Summer for me. I was honoured to deliver my first ever 3h ambient live set on an August Sunday at a local temporary community space called @r4_space , located in former slaughterhouse area in Helsinki.
I dived deep into soothing and deep soundscapes with drones as the backdrop. There was plenty of improvisation, organic movement and channeling emotions through my synthesisers, drum machines and guitar – layering, mixing, modulating, feeling.
Thank you @ocean__people__ & @victoriakaroliina for this opportunity to bring my long-form ambient to this space and for all the work you’ve been doing for the community 🧡

I heard somebody scream and detected plenty stank faces.
OWN - The Trouble, was the closure of the three part OWN clubbing series born from OWN Your Pride - a optional celebration for those who can’t nessesarily relate to, afford to, or find their place in attending mainstream pride events. Teaching and practising (tbh life skills and) community and club culture and how it was all started by us. To understand the resistance and liberation we need to be with it.
We have way too little places like this, and due to our friends at @r4_space we have been able to create a legendary platform of revolutionary dancefloors for people to take care of, feel free in and create at. Ponder and whine, sonder and rhymes, sexy crimes.
Feels like we want it.

R4. Rakensimme väliaikaisen tapahtumatilan Teurastamon vanhimpaan kylmävarastoon ja avasimme sen toukokuun viimeisenä viikonloppuna. Kun R4 hiljenee tulevan viikonlopun jälkeen, sen seinien sisällä (+ terassilla) on järjestetty yhteensä 108 erilaista tapahtumaa.
Ei ollut aina iisiä, mutta oli hauskaa.
