🧑‍🎨 JOB ALERT: 🛠️ Work with the artistic director to plan a signal film up to 1 minute in length, including pre-production, production, and post production activities. The signal film artist will also use design elements from their film to create print and online digital marketing assets (for posters, flyers, social media templates, and festival website) The ideal candidate is an emerging or early-career animator who has completed or is undertaking post-secondary studies in animation, visual arts, design or similar, or has comparable experience or training, with proficiency with animation and design tools. The animator will bring their own style and artistic approach to the film, with the opportunity to grow their skills in their preferred animation medium. Funding for this job is provided by the Government of Canada’s Summer Jobs Program. As a condition of this program, applicants must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred, between the ages of 15-30 at the start of employment. Applicants will be asked to submit: - a portfolio or samples of work. - their CV. - Cover Letter discussing why you’re interested in this opportunity, working with QAS, and a simple description of an idea for the GIRAF 22 signal film. This role requires high levels of creativity, motivation and dedication and the ability to both collaborate artistically with the QAS team, and work independently in the studio. Summer Time is Animation Time! Kids ages 8-12 learn to animate drawings, cutout characters and plasticine, animate digitally, and more! In this fun week-long day-camp, participants learn the fundamentals of animation and how to make their very own animated films! Participants make their own animations with one-on-one instruction, record their own voice acting and edit their films. At the end of the camp they will receive a compilation of the films created throughout the week. Oops… I’m officially participating in the @quickdrawyyc Animation Lockdown 2026 🤩😬 This weekend, I’ll be working solo on a brand new animated short film from start to finish. Join us for our 19th annual Animation Lockdown: OOPS Edition. Make a brand-new animated film from start to finish during this production event! We open our studios and make sure all our gear is available to members so that participants can jam into the studios, get inspired by peers and collaborators, connect over some sweet grub, and get weird in those weirdo hours! Participants will enter the studios on Friday night, and leave Monday afternoon having created incredible new animated films eligible for amazing prizes at our local premiere screening May 30th at the Heather Edwards Theatre @ Contemporary Calgary This year’s theme is 𝑶𝑶𝑷𝑺! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 𝑶𝑶𝑷𝑺 encourages the 2026 Animation Lockdown participants to make “Happy Accidents” (Bob Ross). Erin Saunders is an animator, muralist and illustrator and has served as the Production Director at the Quickdraw Animation Society for the past 6 years. Through her work she has cultivated a community-based focus, and believes strongly in the power of working together with local groups and the ability they have to positively transform our communities. In this Day-Camp, students will learn the fundamentals of animation in with traditional and digital methods. Learn how to draw on a computer, animate with pencil and paper, use cut-paper animation and more! Participants will create a short animated film with sound by the end of the course.
