WA360 Day 3 Dark Park in Budd Inlet to Blake Island 41.79 recorded miles I think it was closer to 45 because Garmin stopped at the waypoint and then didn’t start again until Boston Harbor… … Leaving the Dark park at sunrise it was beautiful. Passed through the narrows at the perfect time and had great speeds. Stopped to get a balloon that was stuck in a tree… Crossed in front of Gig Harbor and carried on up Colvos, but the feeling changed as I went north. The Waves built against me, the wind as well and seemingly the tide was slowing me… All of this was true but I didn’t realize I had all the water in my ama as well. This explains my speed so much more. … I waited for the Southworth ferry to show me what it was doing and then I crossed toward Blake Island. … Once I got to Blake, I tried to lift my canoe, and could not. The ama was completely full of water. I had to unrig my canoe in the surf and drag the ama up. … Once I got everything to camp and set up camp I had no Idea if I could continue on. I was too tired and hungry to worry about anything but food and sleep… luckily I brought the Epoxy putty stick. This seems like a must have. In the morning we will see how this pans out… … Blake Island is pretty cool. The raccoons are just standing by waiting for you to make a mistake and leave your food… the deer are grazing and they seem un-bothered by me. Day 1: WA360 45.63 miles 9.5 hrs of paddling. Port Townsend to Blake island @washingtonwatertrails camp site. … Nerves were high this morning… as soon as the horn went off and I heard Rick Astleys “never gonna give you up” I knew I was in the right place. How far can I get today? In my pre planning Blake Island was my day 1 destination but I wasn’t sure if I could or would make it. Starting at 11a means I got to Blake at 8:30 sun was already starting to lower. … It was really sweet when the lady ran out on to her patio and cheered me on as I went by. “Go Trash Tramp”. Thanks lady! … It was fun getting some surf coming into Blake island. … I was worried about the raccoons eating all my food on day one but thanks to a dog that was there in another camp site the raccoons seemed to stay away. And the mice were all over the raccoon boxes so only option was to sleep with the food… worked out. … How will I feel tomorrow? … #nowastejustrace #5gyresambassador #wa360race …
