Hi Friends!
I’m Em, a non-binary artist and hair stylist based in Silverlake, Los Angeles. I don’t post pictures of myself often, so I wanted to do a reintroduction and share a bit about my journey and why I do hair.
As a kid, I was curious and creative, intrigued by art in all forms. I was especially drawn to painting and the use of color, shape and texture.
I’ve been in service based jobs before hair, and always enjoyed connecting with people. But the creative part was missing; until I went to hair school. I realized the creative opportunities are endless, and the art of hair and connection can be whatever you make it!
While hair can be a fun accessory for self expression, for queer people, it can mean SO much more. I’ve had the honor to see the powerful effects a gender affirming haircut or color can have. Clients have cried tears of joy, seeing their reflection in the mirror for the first time represent how they feel inside.
It warms my heart to experience this powerful transformation, and have a role in their journey. I enjoy providing wash & wear cuts, that work with clients’ natural texture to look great with minimal or no styling.
I had top surgery in March of 2025 and these photos were taken several months later. I’ve experienced first hand, the life saving effects gender affirming care (including hair) can have.
Everyone deserves to be seen, heard and celebrated for being themselves. You are safe in my chair, and I look forward to being part of your journey in becoming your truest self.
❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Gratefully yours,
Em
