They have a self-produced EP on all streaming platforms titled “An Album, The Demo” that can be found under the name Bnjo, and they play in festivals across BC with their afro-reggae band Mivule. This year, marks AJ’s first season with the Vancouver Youth Choir, who just returned from Ireland after winning the Fleischmann International Trophy Competition – the choir’s very first competition. The Youth Choir’s latest work is *Village, an evening of vibrant choral music that celebrates family, community, and togetherness, on stage at the Orpheum, May 24, 2026 at 6:30pm. This uplifting choral presentation will be the largest concert in the Vancouver Youth Choir’s history, featuring 600 youth singers. She finished an MA in Victorian Studies in 2021 and is now midway through a PhD on spiritualism and queerness in the nineteenth century. She was born in New York City and currently lives in London with her girlfriend and their cat. Her debut novel, SPOILED MILK (Random House Canada), came out in March of this year and is generating serious buzz. It’s already one of Indigo’s most anticipated books for 2026. A Sapphic coming of age story, Spoiled Milk juggles several elements as a haunted lesbian historical boarding school horror novel. THIS WEEK IN QUEERSTORY we visit queer cinema… 🏳️‍🌈🎞️🏳️‍⚧️ Badnam Basti (1971) is widely regarded as India’s first queer film. Directed by Prem Kapoor and based on a Hindi novel, the film tells the story of a same-sex love triangle at a time when homosexuality was criminalized under Indian law. Bold and ahead of its time, it explored desire, identity, and societal taboo with sensitivity rarely seen in Indian cinema of that era.
