It still feels unreal to accept Farbod’s passing, gone far too soon. A young queer artist whose life carried so much struggle for dignity in a world that so often demands a fight just to exist.
I remember him like wqs happened yesterday when we did pictures for 999 Queers and get to know him for the first time. His laughter, his positive energy, and the way he communicated warmth and hope stayed with me.
He was his parents’ only child. They wish to bring his body back to Iran so he can be buried there, but they cannot afford the €7,000 required for this repatriation. All donations will go directly to an organisation in Austria specialised in body repatriation.

We are mourning the loss of our friend Farbod, who passed away last week.
He was a young queer man from Iran who had fled persecution for his sexual orientation in his home country. His partner was one of the 36,500 anti-regime protesters killed in the streets by IRGC security forces in January this year. Farbod found out about the murder of his boyfriend on a public news channel and has struggled with his mental health ever since. The ongoing war of aggression by the US and Israel against Iran, and the hardships of being a queer refugee within an increasingly restrictive Austrian asylum system, further destabilised him. It was way too much for a young person like him to deal with and he died at the end of April this year.
As we mourn his death, we must point the finger at the actors contributing to it: The clerical fascist IRGC, whose terror is indirectly responsible for countless deaths like Farbod's, not to mention the civilians killed in the streets and executed in detention. The US and Israel, whose military intervention was never intended to support the Iranian people. The Austrian social system, which does not provide enough support for a young, queer refugee of colour in a crisis situation like Farbod's.

Betroffene erhalten in der Gruft ein warmes Essen, einen Platz zum Schlafen, saubere Kleidung und die Möglichkeit zu duschen. Das Team der Gruft unterstützt obdachlose Menschen dabei, wieder in der Gesellschaft Fuß zu fassen.

The picnic organized in collaboration with Queer Base Vienna and 999 Queers was truly a blessing.
It was a beautiful day of connection, play, and shared experiences, where we came together through many of the realities we navigate in our lives.
Taking photographs of the people who participated for 999 Queers, celebrating one another, and embracing queerness collectively made the day deeply meaningful and powerful.
