The PISS OFF music video concept was largely inspired by surrealist painter Rene Magritte. In the proccess of conceptualizing the whole thing @queerbarbie and I chose 4 of the painters scenes to recreate through a modern cinematic perspective ~ personally I love how it came out Magritte’s ‘Golconda’ was the most challenging edit for me. I created each layer of duplicates of the character I referred to as ‘man in the sky’ and had each one hold or turn on a different interval. The process included making 50+ layers of myself from a green screen which gave every computer I was editing on a real fucking challenge and I wasn’t sure it would render In the first place lol Surreal oil painting was actually one of my first art forms and Rene Magritte was someone whose work I really loved in highschool and had influenced my painting style a ton. So getting to make this video concept with @queerbarbie felt hella full circle to me ~~ (There was a bit more concept involved with the difference of scenes, footage quality, the two characters the video cuts to and the dynamic between them, but it I’ll get into that later) Thank yall for watching and enjoying. From this vantage point, our present is our future, and choice points are opportunities to change direction. Who will you choose, what will you choose, when will you choose it?  We look at the relics of relationship, citing these as nonphysical pieces we carry. They are the voices we remember, the stories we tell, the gestures, the lessons, the feelings. We see the relics as gifts given to us as our Living Inheritance. I am grateful for the opportunity to perform. I’m so grateful for the opportunity, in this lifetime, to be an artist and received by you all BABYLON is my second on stage performance this entire year, and it means so much to me. An hour long set told in three parts - three characters and three costume changes styled by @queerbarbie , with interludes by @nyfe_ and @billie0cean , and having the entire set open with a drag number by @gabriele.mov all set in a visual-audio universe made in collaboration of me @imli.ix and @h.e.l.i.x.h.a.l.o 🖤 This was my dream come true. I saw yall cry , I saw yall dance and laugh — my heart is so so full. My birthday is in a few days and I’m still soaking in the gift of this experience BABYLON is a theatrical music experience, navigating simply, what it’s like from my position as a black American experiencing my own growth, love, loss and survival within the belly of the beast (USA). The world unravels and industries collapse and idols fall and we witness so much suffering while asking what is our power? What is the importance of my voice? How do I stay connected to myself and others? The songs included in this piece, were my expression and contemplation of these things. Wanting place, wanting safety, wanting belonging, wanting power, resistance. The first character is The Crow, the crow as a symbol of death and transformation, omen, wisdom. This character fights awareness and grieves the acceptance of its own captivity and death that is imminent within its cage. Beginning with its attempts at escapism through dissociation a party, a broken winged dance. They’re a superstar - going down in a blaze of ecstasy. I would call this performance a concept-concert, but there isn’t really anything conceptual at all about us navigating the terrors, loss and love of this reality - I just happen to do it, sometimes, in costume parts two and three of Babylon, I’ll talk more on later ~ ALL PHOTOS BY @by.onome ❤️‍🔥📸 . . .
