Syrian LGBTQ+ and Allies Weekly Virtual Drop in.
*
As a reporter visiting Damascus delivered the News to our Team at Marginalized Majority, that there is a deep need for community and Psycho-Social support amongst the community in Syria, we decided to launch this project.
*
This project is initiated and launched by our Executive Director, Dr. Jad Jaber and is being Developed by our Long Time Organizational Member & Leader, Leila Swan
*
Our SWANA Community Support Virtual Drop In’s are nothing new for our operations. We safely and regularly implemented our Khaleeji/ SWANA drop in for a total of 4 years, helping thousands of folks in the Arab/ SWANA region.
*
Drop in’s are Softly Facilitated Spaces, were a facilitator with the proper experience, runs a safer space for folks to share knowledge, resources, connect and get the advice and wisdom they need.
*
We invite interested participants, healers, therapists, conflict resolution experts and other folks who might have trauma-informed knowledge, to join/ Register for the space by DM-ing Leila_Sawan or emailing
[email protected]
*
We look for sponsors, collaborators and funding to operate this project equitably. If you have any ideas on funding or you would like to fund/ sponsor the space itself, then kindly reach out to
[email protected]
*
The specific Day/Time for the drop in was ritually at 12 PM EDT on Saturdays: a time that can encompass queer folks from both side of the globe.
*
Acknowledging that creating “Full-Proof Safe Spaces” within community settings is often unrealistic. We promise a Safer space, to be stringent and hyper aware of who enters these spaces. As this is being operated through a private Zoom Meeting, the operational team can immediately remove & ban any kind of online attacks/ harmful language within the space. We will also vet as many of the participants ahead of time to ensure safety. We look forward to any of your community recommendations on how to make it even safer.
*
We welcome all members of our community, and this space doesn’t exclude any Global
South Queer Participant, as long as they remain kind and respectful with their language.
