I took my mom to pick out plants since she’s the Queen of the green thumbs. I saw these pretty perennial flowers that happened to both be in my favorite color range and match my dress. I felt it would be irresponsible ✨ not ✨ to take selfies, and while doing the reasonable thing, a woman stopped me and said I looked so pretty, it was like seeing a real live princess. And there was my mother, the queen, lost in rows of flowers in perfect weather on Mother’s Day. And so maybe the woman had a point and maybe there’s a foretaste of fairytale in that 💜 🤍🪻

Beloved, graduation season approaches. This one is special because in the beautifully authored book that is my life, this is a redemption arc. This is the part where the pieces come together and the inconceivable starts to make sense. This is where “all my life You have been faithful” crescendos in the background in a full ride, “stood atop a mountain of muck and mire and made it gold” kind of way. This is a very Roman’s 8, “it’s all working for my good and nothing can separate me from His love” type of chapter. This is a finer than I ever been, bad as I was meant to be, taking everything heaven got for me and giving my enemies hell typa ting. It’s very much giving by grace, through faith, for glory. It is peak “don’t know how, but You did it—made a way!” I’ve been working, learning, training, and developing leadership for almost 23 years; it is ALWAYS an honor to hone and cultivate the gift and the skill that is calling out the gold in others and bringing the vision to pass. (BTW There are like 50 more of these and I haven’t even done my shoot with @e_de_media yet! PREPARE TO BE WELL OF ME!) What is your favorite pic? P.S. Keep praying for me because it’s a busy month! No fancy Easter photos—just a mumu and some gratitude for the feed. He is risen, just as He said! And He taught me to resurrect, too. Again, and again, and again, and… So much has gone wrong. But as I look at my weekend filled with Jesus, jollof, friends, food, and family, I recognize the overwhelm of grace and favor, and how very much has gone right. I am not bound to grief when gratitude is RIGHT THERE! I am surrounded by abundant love because Perfect Love died for me! Death could not hold Him, and thus, I too am free indeed. Beloved, in honor of #Nationalpoetrymonth starting tomorrow AND to contextualize my last post, I decided to run this back (for the folks in the back) Ode to My Grown Woman Body: “You done almost crumbled to dust But here you are joy preserving”

PSA Beloved! My body has fluctuated my entire life. I have always been plus sized. At my healthiest, I’ve been fat! As an athlete. As a dancer. As a survivor of chronic illness. As a dynamic multi-hyphenate. It has ebbed and flowed all my life. As I have made significant changes to reset my hormones and reverse auto-immune damage and years of debilitating stress-induced illness (and manage genetic predispositions), I just want to make it clear that no one gets to come here and dishonor older versions of this body. She is beloved, revered, resilient, and reverenced, and fatphobia won’t try and claim otherwise. She took up space and we won’t shrink her impact just because she is shifting once again. Thanks for being so loving and supportive, and for recognizing that no version of my body will be on a pedestal simply because it is smaller. No before and afters, here.
