We’ve walked through some hard seasons together. There was a time I almost lost her. There was a season where I raised her children for five years. We’ve faced addiction, pain, setbacks, and adversity that could have broken us.
But God.
Today, we stand on the other side with healing, growth, grace, and friendship. Not just mother and daughter — but friends. And that is a blessing I never take for granted.
I’m so proud of the woman she continues to become. Looking forward to many more years of trips, laughter, experiences, exploring the world together, and making new memories.
Happy Birthday to my firstborn. And Happy Mother’s Day to every woman who kept loving through the hard parts.

There was a time in my life when I could have gone in so many different directions. But my grandmother planted something deeper in me — faith.
She introduced me to Christ not just through words, but through prayer, consistency, strength, and example. Long before I understood purpose, she covered me. Long before I recognized God’s hand on my life, she was already speaking life over me.
2 Timothy 1:5 says:
“I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.” That scripture is my testimony.
The things I used to do no longer define me. The confusion, the cycles, the broken places, the drugs, the alcohol— God delivered me, healed me, and anchored me in truth. Because someone before me carried the flame of faith and refused to let it die. Now I stand strong in who God called me to be an Ambassador in the Kingdom.
I have a testimony.
I have power.
I have love.
I have self-discipline.
And I know the truth of my life.
Legacy matters. Faith matters. Grandmothers matter.
As Mother’s Day approaches, this candid conversation with @meimapierre brings me so much joy because the reality is… moms are busy. But the truth is, let’s focus on our peace.
Yes, the dishes may pile up.
Yes, the house may get a little messy.
Those are all things that can be fixed. But your peace? Your peace is sacred.
On my road to 60, I’m learning that protecting my peace is not selfish — it’s necessary.
I don’t want to spend this season exhausted, overwhelmed, and constantly trying to keep up appearances while losing myself in the process.
I want softness.
I want joy.
I want quiet moments without guilt.
I want rest without apology.
So to every mother, caregiver, nurturer, and woman carrying the weight of so much:
take a breath, sit down sometimes, laugh more, and remember… everything does not have to be perfect to still be beautiful.

As I continue #OnTheRoadTo60, I find myself reflecting on some unforgettable moments from my 50s… One of my favorites was a day in Warwick Castle—specifically at the peacock farm. If you know me, you already know… I LOVE peacocks. Their beauty, their confidence, their presence—it speaks to me every time and listen, I also love imitating bird calls.
So there I was, fully committed, making what I can only describe as a flurry of mating calls and wouldn’t you know it—a proud male peacock took the invitation seriously and began to parade his spectacular feathers right in front of us! It was a whole show.
We @grammythompson@deborah__bullock laughed alllllllll day. The kind of laughter that stays with you… the kind that reminds you to stay playful, stay curious, and never take yourself too seriously.
Moments like that? Pure joy. Pure memory. Pure life.

And in the midst of it all—I’m still working, still building, still curating new installations at the RISE House, pursuing my doctorate and still making time to stop in on life groups.
This is what becoming 60 looks like.
This is what blooming into 60 feels like.
Can’t stop. Won’t stop.

In 2023, I had a candid conversation with my granddaughter @aaliyahfernandes13 . I asked her, “What will you be known for?”
She said:�Being myself. Loving myself. Loving hard.
She even tattooed it on her body as a reminder: “I love myself.”
And when she gets low… she looks at it and remembers who she is.
At the end of our conversation, I reminded her of what she said to me as she did my makeup:�“I am the author of my own story.”
On my road to 60, that reminder is speaking to me just as loudly.
We don’t just pass down wisdom…�Sometimes, we receive it.
Sending this back to her today—so she never forgets. 🤍
