Islands and lakes are lenses that reveal patterns, of how we live and our environmental limits. They provide succinct means to explore interaction and co-dependency between human and natural life.
Developed within the AHRC funded Future Island-Island project Terraqueous uses impactful, sophisticated drawing and media to explore ‘ownership’; ground, water, flooding, biodiversity, risk aversion, industry and pollution, as territories for new forms of architecture and to locate the utopian oasis of Rathlinneagh.
Innovative designers visualise interacting phenomena, human and natural actors that determine co-existence, ecosystems, socio- technical connections, networks and flows. Propositional design of infrastructure and space questions architecture=building and landscape=nature as bases for designing environmental futures.
