My home art collection is filled with records, reading books, photo books, and movie posters. As artists, I believe that we also have a responsibility to archive the pieces that have inspired us on our journey.
With the one year anniversary of Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” just passing, I wanted to honor this film. The movie poster currently sits under a picture light on a wall, giving a movie theater experience in my living room. It means a lot to me because this movie came at a time where I wasn’t sure if I should write my social thriller period piece. And after having seen it over 5 times, I’m more sure now than ever.
In this shoot, I also wanted to pay homage the first film that made me want to pursue screenwriting & directing seriously. And that is none other than Jordan Peele’s “Get Out”.
Both of these films contain the sensibility and craft that I wish to adopt into my work. The conversations that have come from these films will forever be stamped in society.
The storytelling, visual language, and cultural shifts that I’ve witnessed from the work of the casts and crews will continue to motivate me to be a student of the game.
