Leftover simulation from a recent project; unused and on its way to a landfill. I love working on cloth simulations; it’s such a satisfying process. But I admittedly spent a long time grasping all the different parameters and how they affect the simulation. This fall I build and animated the world of PCD23. PCD Aarhus 2023 was a one day programme of workshops and talks on information technologies from the perspective of art and media theory. The programme was organized by @code.and.share Each speaker had their own world that was used to promote them before and during the event. I used an animated scattering system I build in geometry nodes to run the physics of these worlds, and almost all objects are found in various asset libraries across the web. These objects are are digital objects; 3D scanned, modeled or compiled data objects. They reject conventional modes of measure such as weight, density and mass. ~Their~ mass is irrelevant, but their plea to the ‘world of things’ is an ontological exercise, thoroughly practiced in media theories of the last three decades. Here, they are governed by external forces only, swarming and shifting in currents, blind to the boundaries of the other. #geometrynodes #blender #pcd #pcdaarhus2023 #animation #mediatheory #dataobject #ontology
