After more than two decades connecting our regional communities with QantasLink, Naomi has taken her dream job to new heights âď¸
âI joined the Qantas Group in 2002 after spotting an ad in our local Mildura paper for Dashâ8 cabin crew,â Naomi explained. âTwentyâthree years and four uniform changes later, Iâm still doing what Iâve always dreamed of, only now Iâm literally taking it to new heights.â
Regional flying will always have a special place in Naomiâs heart, but the spark to join our international long-haul flying was always there.
âStarting and finishing my days in Mildura meant watching families grow, kids who once flew as little ones heading off to university. That continuity was something truly special. Our crew felt like family, and our customers are the reason I love coming to work every single day.
âBut I remember seeing Qantas crew in an international terminal on my first overseas holiday and thinking âThatâs where I want to be!â. The timing wasnât right back then with my girls still in school and life just being busy. However now, at 51, my moment has finally arrived.â
Joining the first long-haul Cabin Crew graduation class of 2026, Naomi says the experience has been unforgettable thanks to her Ground School group, her instructors, and even a fullâcircle moment with her very first Cabin Crew Manager returning as her EP instructor, 23 years on.
âMy first flight as long-haul crew was on the Airbus A380 to Johannesburg - just a bit bigger than the little Dashies I was used to flying - and it was just an incredible experience!
âI still get the same buzz every time I put on the uniform, and I feel so lucky to be part of the Qantas family.â
Naomiâs story is proof that dreams donât have an expiry date...

Whatâs the first thing youâre doing in Rome?
âThe very first flight I took as a child, I knew I wanted to follow in mumâs footsteps!â đ¤Š
Growing up, Prue was captivated by her mumâs stories of life in the skies working as a flight attendant for Trans Australia Airlines (TAA). She flew on iconic aircraft including Lockheed Electraâs, Vickers Viscountâs, and Douglas DC-3s.
Now, Prueâs mum is the one listening to her daughterâs stories of flying for Qantas, with Prue joining the QantasLink family on the Boeing 717s and Airbus A220s, before recently moving across to international and flying on Airbus A380s and Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
âI always wanted to work in aviation, but after two unsuccessful stints with Compass in the 90s, I gave up on my dream for a while,â Prue recalled. âBut now, Iâve been able to return and fulfil that 40+-year dream and live out my best life at Qantas!
âMy mum gave me her old TAA wings when I graduated from Qantas International Ground School, it was such a special moment. I was also lucky enough to be able to bring her along for one of my flightâs last year, and that memory will stick with me forever.
âThe first time I put on my uniform I cried like a baby. And now, having passengers thank me for everything Iâve done for them and knowing I make a difference every time I step on board, itâs such an amazing feeling.â
This Motherâs Day, weâre celebrating the mums who inspire dreams, make sacrifices, and pass down a love of flying that lasts a lifetime â¤ď¸

I have just finished reading âThe Man Australia Forgotâ, written by the daughter of Paul McGinness - one of the founders of Qantas.
More than a century ago, Paul went to war as a young ANZAC. He served at Gallipoli, fought in the Sinai Desert, and later became one of Australiaâs first fighter aces - earning distinction for his courage in the air.
Alongside Hudson Fysh, he saw a future where aviation could connect a vast country. On 16 November 1920 that vision became Qantas, which was built on the courage, ingenuity, and mateship forged during wartime.
What stood out most to me about Paul McGinnessâs story was not just what he achieved, but who he was: a man of integrity, humility and empathy. Those values earned deep respect from those who served beside him, and still underpin the safety culture at Qantas to this day. If I had to define âThe Spirit of Australiaâ, I think it is a âSpirit of Mateshipâ, that extends to any people we meet - from any country, culture or creed. I think that spirit was forged from the âANZAC Spiritâ of 1915. It is that âEsprit de Corpsâ, and camaraderie, that have played a huge part of why I have loved my military service with the RAAF, and my flying for Qantas.
My Grandfathers both served in France and Belgium during the First World War, and I was taught from a young age that ANZAC Day is not just about commemorating the sacrifices of the fallen, it is about carrying their stories forward, and for us to use them to create a better world of understanding, tolerance and peace. âLest we forgetâ
I am honoured to be flying to London to represent Qantas at the ANZAC Day commemoration at the Hyde Park dawn service, wreath laying at the Cenotaph, and the Westminster Abbey Service of Commemoration and Thanksgiving.â
