It’s the first day of Canada’s legendary documentary festival, but sadly HotDocs is expected to continue their policy of not paying short filmmakers despite a $7.4 million budget and over $1 million of public funding. It’s time for @melaniejoly and the @liberalca gov’t to step in to ensure that Federal arts funding is only available to festivals that pay proper artist fees! ... We’ve crunched the numbers on the Florida Film Festival !! To pay each short film that screened at this year’s festival a single-screening IMAA fee of $87 would cost the festival $10,962. In other words, this is roughly .2% of the Enzian Theatres 2016 revenue ($3.8 million). Or 2% of the theatre’s 2016 SURPLUS of nearly $600,000. Change is as simple as making a decision to implement it, and we hope the leadership at @floridafilmfest sincerely considers making a stronger effort to respect the cultural and economic value of the art of short filmmaking. @timlikesfilmsnotpeople
